HP Network ScanJet 4Si and HP Network ScanJet 5 Scanners - Managing Both on the Same or Mixed Environments

Issue:
Managing both the HP Network ScanJet 4Si and HP Network ScanJet 5 scanners on the same or mixed environments.
Solution
If you are a user of both an HP Network ScanJet 4Si and of a HP Network ScanJet 5 and you want to receive documents from both scanners, follow these guidelines. Remember that you can be a user for both scanners only if you have a client PC running Windows 3.x or Windows 95.
  note:
The HP Network ScanJet 4Si is not supported under Windows NT
Users need to have installed at their PCs the following pieces of software:
  • HP Network Scanner Utility for the HP Network ScanJet 4Si
  • HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility for the HP Network ScanJet 5
  • PaperPort (TM) for HP (Win16 or Win32 version depending on the operating system)
  • OmniPage Limited Edition (or complete OCR package supported by PaperPort installed on system)
      note:
In all cases, the user environment at the scanner for the HP Network ScanJet 5 can be controlled with the HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility, but for the HP Network ScanJet 4Si it must be controlled with the HP ScanJet 4si Utility.
      note:
In all cases administrative tasks for the HP Network ScanJet 5 can be done with HP JetAdmin, but for the HP Network ScanJet 4Si you must control it from the HP Network ScanJet 4Si Administrative Software.
Scanners Configured On The Same Network Operating System
If the scanners are configured on the same NetWare server, when configuring the Network ScanJet 5 in HP JetAdmin, make sure the user's work area for the HP Network ScanJet 5 is set to the same path of the user's work area on the HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner.
To receive documents from both scanners the HP Network ScanJet 4Si utility and Network ScanJet 5 Utility need to be running on the client PC.
Scanners Configured On Different Network Operating System
If the scanners are configured on two different network environments (for example, the HP Network ScanJet 4Si on NetWare and the HP Network ScanJet 5 on an NT or LANServer environment):
Windows 3.1x: Edit the HPNSU.INI file located in the Windows directory and add the following section: (If the HPNSU.INI file is not present, create it and add the following information).
[Support]
HPScanJet4Si = 1
  note:
The HP ScanJet 5 Utility will only allow you to see one work area at a time. (For example, if user has a work area on an NT server and a Novell server the utility can only attach to one at a time)
Windows 95: In the system registry, create the following path: (Warning: You should back up the registry before editing) "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\ HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility\ SSNet-II\ Support". Add a new DWORD value named "HPScanJet4Si" to "Support". Set its value to hexadecimal "1".
You will need to make the following changes to log in as bindery context:
Win3.1x - From Nwpopup menu for Novell, select login tab, choose server, put a check mark next to bindery connect.
Win95 - Go to control panel networks, select client 32, properties. At the login tab, select display connection page, log into server, put a check in front of bindery connection.
