HP Network ScanJet 4Si Scanner - Support Through the HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility

note:
You must be using the HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner on a Windows 3.1x or Windows 95 PC environment. The HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner is NOT supported in Windows NT.
Required software for the workstation:
  • HP Network Scanner Utility for the HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner
  • HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility for the HP Network ScanJet 5 scanner
  • PaperPort (TM) for HP (Win16 or Win32 version depending on the operating system)
  • OmniPage Limited Edition (or complete OCR package supported by PaperPort installed on system)
note:
The HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner is still controlled through the HP Network ScanJet 4Si Utility. The HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility is required to communicate with the 32-bit PaperPort software. The administrative tasks for the HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner are still controlled through the HP Network ScanJet 4Si Administrative software NOT the HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility.

Windows 3.1x

Edit the HPNSU.INI file located in the Windows directory and add the following section:
[Support]
HPScanJet4Si = 1
If the HPNSU.INI file is not present, create it and add the following information.
[Support]
HPScanJet4Si = 1

Windows 95

In the system registry, create the following path:

You should back up the registry before editing.
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\ HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility\ SSNet-II\ Support". Add a new DWORD value named "HPScanJet4Si" to "Support". Set its value to hexadecimal "1".
You must log in using bindery context.
You will need to make the following changes to log in as bindery context:

Windows 3.1x

From Nwpopup menu for Novell, select login tab, choose server, put a check mark next to bindery connect.

Windows 95

Go to control panel networks, select client 32, properties. At the login tab, select display connection page, log into server, put a check in front of bindery connection.
