HP Digital Sender 9100C – How to Configure LDAP Authentication and Troubleshoot Error: “Invalid Credentials. Check Account Name and Password”

Issue:
After having configured the HP Digital Sender 9100C to use LDAP authentication with the LDAP included in Microsoft(R) Exchange version 5.5, the error, "Invalid credentials. Check account name and password," appears on the Control Panel of the HP Digital Sender 9100C when executing an LDAP search.
Solution
To correctly configure LDAP authentication using Basic (Clear text) with LDAP version included in Microsoft Exchange 5.5, do the following:
  note:
If using HP Jetadmin, in the account name field, it is necessary to use the following syntax: ou=NTdomain,cn=NTaccount. HP Jetadmin has been discontinued. Please configure the Digital Sender using its embedded web server.
  1. To configure the LDAP server, open the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator program
  2. Open the configuration container of the site container.
  3. Open the protocol container, and double-click LDAP to open the property page. Click Authentication and check only the Basic (Clear Text) check box.
  4. Click Anonymous and remove the checkmark from the Allow Anonymous Access check box. Click OK.
      note:
Using Anonymous will override any authentication settings.
  5. Click Properties of the configuration container. Choose Permissions or Service Account Password tab. Both of these tabs have the NT domain account information. Take note of the account in the account field, this will be in this form: NTdomain\Ntaccount For example: hpexample\administrator.
Fill in the account information in the Embedded Web Server or in HP Jetadmin
  note:
HP Jetadmin has been discontinued. Please configure the Digital Sender (firmware 5.0 and above) using its embedded Web server. Refer to the Embedded Web Server instructions.
Embedded Web Server
  1. In a Web browser, type the IP address of the digital sender followed by a colon (:) along with the port number 4242 in a supported browser. Example: 10.10.10.1:4242
  2. Select Setting, Connections and then LDAP.
  3. The Search Root field can be left empty. Otherwise, it can be filled in with o=organization name or c=country, using the X.500 convention (for example, o=hp or c=US) to limit the scope of the search.
  4. Check the Enable Directory Service check box.
  5. In the Authentication section of the LDAP configuration page of the embedded web server, check Authenticate Transactions with the server.
  6. Fill in the Account Name field with the NT account from Step 4 above using the following syntax: ou=NTdomain,cn=NTaccount (for example, ou=hpamsterdam, cn=administrator). This is the distinguished name according to the X.500 convention.
  7. Fill in the Password, and confirm the password fields with the password of that account. This will be the user account and password to the server by default.
  8. Click Apply, and then exit the browser.
HP Jetadmin
  1. Ensure HP Jetadmin is not in interview mode. (Open HP Jetadmin and select Options. Remove the check mark by interview mode.)
  2. In HP Jetadmin, select the HP Digital Sender 9100C.
  3. Right-click the HP Digital Sender 9100C.
  4. Click Modify.
  5. Click LDAP in the HP Digital Sender 9100C configuration page. Fill in the LDAP Server IP Address or Network name field with the address of the LDAP server (in this case, identical to the address of the Exchange server).
  6. The Search Root field can be left empty, or, otherwise, it can be filled in as appropriate with o=organization name or c=country using the X.500 convention (for example, o=hp or c=US) to limit the scope of the search.
  7. In the Authentication section of the LDAP configuration page of the HP Digital Sender 9100C, check Authenticate Transactions with the server.
  8. Fill in the Account Name field with the NT account from Step 4 above using the following syntax: ou=NTdomain,cn=NTaccount (for example, ou=hpamsterdam, cn=administrator). This is the distinguished name according to the X.500 convention.
  9. Fill in the Password, and confirm password fields with the password of that account. This will be the user account and password to the server by default.
  10. Check the Enable Directory Service check box.
  11. Click OK to close the HP Digital Sender 9100C configuration page in HP Jetadmin and to save the changes.
