Issue:
How do I install the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD Windows system print driver version 4.35?
Solution
Please print these pages and follow the instructions outlined below:
DETAILS: Both brief installation instructions and complete installation instructions are included in this document.
Brief installation instructions
note:
If you have any problems or doubts with these brief installation instructions, please follow the more complete and detailed installation instructions listed at the end of step 4 in the brief installation instructions.
  1. Open the Printers folder in the Control Panel of your Windows System. This can be done using: "Start"->"Settings"->"Printers" or "Start"->"Settings"->"Control Panel" then opening the Printer control. Delete the current installed HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printers.
  2. Save the executable file that came attached with this message to the hard disk on your PC. If you received multiple files then chose the one corresponding to Operating System and Language that you wish to install.
  3. Open (Execute or Run) the executable file that you saved in step 2. Chose a temporary folder and Unzip the files to that folder.
  4. In the Printer Folder (see step 1)), chose "Add Printer" and follow the instructions with special note to the following points:-
note:
Select "Have Disk" and not the printer from the list of Manufacturers offered by Windows (failing to do so will re-install the previous driver!)
  caution:
Chose "Replace existing driver" when asked -- failing to do so will re-install the previous driver.
note:
When finished, open the Properties page of your newly installed printer. Select the "About" tab and check that the version shown is "v4.35", this indicates that you have the new version of the driver installed.
note:
It is best to re-start the system to ensure correct operation of the newly installed printer.
Complete Installation Instructions
  1. Save the attached Self-Extracting executable (*.exe) file to the hard drive on your PC.
  2. Execute the file by double clicking on it.
  3. Chose a folder that the executable file will use to temporarily decompress the driver files into. This is called the "Unzip To Folder:" in the dialog. Examples folders are intended for temporary files like are C:\TEMP or C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
  4. Make sure the "Overwrite Files Without Prompting" checkbox is selected.
  5. Press the "Unzip" button.
  6. The files will be unpacked and uncompressed (unzipped) into the chosen folder.
  7. Press the OK button, then the Close button on the previous dialog.
  8. Click Start, Settings, and then Printers to open the Printers dialog box.
  9. Delete existing the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer.

  11. You will see a dialog box ask how the printer will be managed. "This printer will be managed by..."
Select which of the following applies to your environment:
"My computer" if the output you send to the printer will go directly to the printer by cable or network without being stored on another computer.
    Or
"Network printer server" if you will send output to the printer via another computer. In this case, all settings for the printer managed by a printer server are set by an network system administrator.
    Then click "Next"
  12. Chose the port to which you have the printer connected, then click “Next”.
  13. You will see a dialog asking you to "Click the manufacturer and model of your printer." Click “Have Disk”.
  14. Enter the name of the temporary folder where the driver files were decompressed into (such as C:\TEMP or C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) or use the "Browse" button to find the folder with the uncompressed driver files. Click "OK".
    note:
If you used "Browse" to find the temporary folder you should see the OemSetup file present in that folder.
  15. Click "Open" and return to the previous dialog.
  16. Click "OK"
  17. A new dialog with a list of printers will be shown. Select your "HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD by HP" printer from the list and click "Next."
  18. If you previously had a driver installed on this PC for the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD then you will be shown a dialog with the following text:
"A driver is already installed for this printer. Would you like to keep the existing driver or use the new one?"
Select "Replace existing driver" and then click "Next".
  19. Enter a name for the printer. This is the name that will appear for this Printer in the Printers Folder in Windows. Click "Next"
  20. You may be asked if you want to use this as the default printer. If so, then select "Yes" or "No", according to your preferences. Click "Next"
  21. You will be asked if you want to share this printer with other users on the Network via your PC. Sharing via a Network server is done differently - don't select this unless other users access this printer via your PC.
    note:
If you wish to share this printer in this way select "Shared" and enter a "Share Name". Chose the Operating Systems to which you want to share it. Otherwise leave "Not Shared" selected. Click "Next"
  22. You will be asked: "Would you like to print a test page?" We recommend that you select "Yes". By printing a test page you will test the communications link between your system and the printer. Click "Finish".
  23. When finished, open the Properties page of your newly installed printer. This is done by opening the Printers Folder (Start->Settings->Printer) and clicking with the right mouse button on the icon of the printer. You will see the properties page of this Printer.
Select the "About" tab and check that the version shown is "v4.35", this indicates that you have the new version of the driver installed. If something other than "v4.35" is shown then contact HP.
  24. We recommend that you re-start the system in order to ensure correct operation of your new driver.
