HP Designjet 50ps Printer - How to Create Hot Folders

What is a Hot Folder
A Hot Folder is a specialized folder that contains unique print settings. A file that is placed into a Hot Folder is automatically processed to fit the pre-set characteristics of a remote printing location.
A Hot Folder is automatically generated when a virtual printer is created (go to: Print Manager, Settings, and then Virtual Printer).
Virtual Printers versus Hot Folders
A Virtual Printer allows PostScript(R) files to be generated when there is no printer connection. A Hot Folder is a folder that contains the same settings defined for the Virtual Printer.
  • When a file is placed in a Hot Folder, it is automatically processed with the same settings you defined for the Virtual Printer associated to this Hot Folder.
  • A Hot Folder does not need to open an application to send a job to print.
  • A Hot Folder enables the HP Designjet 50ps printer to be "ready" when a customer's files arrive.
Remote Proofing Hot Folders versus 50ps Hot Folders
HP Remote Proofing software also uses Hot Folders, that are different from the ones associated to the HP Designjet 50ps virtual printers.
HP Remote Proofing Hot Folders are used to generate remote proofing files or to print them.
Drop the image file into the Remote Proofing Hot Folder. The settings assigned to that Hot Folder will be applied to generate the RPF file.
Drop the RPF file into the HP Remote Proofing Hot Folder. The Remote Proofing will proceed with the printing, without asking the customer for confirmation.
Using Hot Folders can greatly simplify remote proofing. Simply drop a file into a Hot Folder and it enters the printing queue.
