    Information regarding recent vulnerabilities

HP is aware of the recent class of vulnerabilities referred to as “speculative execution side-channel attacks”. HP has released a security bulletin for systems with Intel x86 processor, and will continue to provide more information on other processors (ARM, AMD) as it becomes available.

HP Designjet 5000, 800 and 500 Series Printers - RTL CMYK Data is Supported Using the Latest Firmware Updates

Issue:
Unable to send RTL CMYK data to a HP Designjet 5000, 5000PS, 800, 800PS, 500+HP-GL/2 card and 500PS+HP-GL/2 card.
Solution
Upgrade the printer firmware to the latest version.
Summary
Developers can now send RTL CMYK data to the HP Designjet 5000, 5000PS, 800, 800PS, 500+HP-GL/2 card and 500PS+HP-GL/2 card. The latest firmware releases for the HP Designjet 5000, 800 and 500 series (500 Series if it has been upgraded with the HP-GL/2 accessory card) allows developers to send CMYK data 1 bit per pixel as in previous HP Designjet products (1000 series, CP series, etc.).
The command to use is the same as before: the RTL Command: Simple Color –4.
How this change affects the different developers:
  • Technical solutions (CAD, GIS, MCAD, etc.): Do not need to develop new RGB code. Files being used for the HP Designjet 1000 or CP Series can now be sent directly to the HP Designjet 5000, 800 and 500 series.
  • Graphics Artist: The Designjet 5000 Series is already able to print CMYKcm data, so the change will help if the file has not been migrated yet. For the HP Designjet 500+GL/2 Card and 800 this is a huge step since now they will be able to send CMYK data to the printer. In this mode they will not be able to use the 2400x1200 photographic print mode (quality will be similar to CP Series).
  • Proofing solutions: Same as Graphics Artist, but in this case the inability to print at 2400x1200 is not as severe as for the Graphics Artist.
What does this mean in terms of print quality:
  • The print quality of this product may be affected since the HP Designjet 5000 series uses up to 6 colors with 2 bits per pixel whereas the 800 and 500 series uses 4 colors up to 2 bits per pixel.
  • Going down to just 1 bit per pixel will decrease the print quality. In fact the print quality will be a bit better than the CP series (in 800 and 500 the drop size is smaller and in 5000 you have more colors).
