This document contains information on how to set up the multi-roll feeder. Two or three people are needed to do some of the steps. A floor area of approximately six square meters for unpacking and assembling the multi-roll feeder is recommended. The time required to unpack, assemble, and set up the hardware is about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the model and components (for example, whether a stand is used).

Removing the packaging

  warning:
The following steps require two people.
  1. Remove the corrugated safeguards by lifting them out of the box.
  2. Remove the outer sleeve by lifting it up and over the multi-roll feeder.

  2. Disconnect the power cord and unclip it from the rear of printer.
Figure : Disconnecting the power cord
  3. Unscrew the four screws and remove the cover plate at the back of the printer.
Figure : Removing the cover plate
    note:
The firmware module is in the slot on the right.
      caution:
To avoid damage to electronic components by electrostatic discharge, put on a grounding wrist strap and attach to a metal part of a printer, or touch a metal part when removing and inserting the module.
Figure : Grounding to the printer
  4. Push down the lower locking tab, push up the upper locking tab, and remove the firmware module. Be careful that it does not fall out.
Figure : Pushing on the locking tabs
  5. Take the upgrade module out of its bag. Hold the module by its edges with the non-metallic edges toward you. Carefully push the top edge of the module into the slot.

  9. Verify correct installation of the upgrade module as follows:
    1. Connect the power cord at the back of the printer, turn the power-isolating switch on, and turn the printer on at the front panel.
    2. The printer will perform the initialization procedure and upon successful completion, the front panel will display READY status.

Removing the stand from the printer

note:
If the firmware module needs upgrading, do this before removing the printer from the stand. Click here to refer to the Upgrading the firmware module on the printer section of this document.
note:
Do not remove the ink cartridges, printheads, and printhead cleaners. Remove media from the printer.
  1. Turn the printer off at the front panel, then turn the power isolator switch off at the back of the printer.

Attaching the printer to the multi-roll feeder

note:
If installation of additional memory, a hard disk, or a new LAN card is needed, do this now.
  1. If installing a new printer, cut away the plastic covering and remove the spindle. Then remove the end packing pieces.
  2. From the front towards the rear, lift the printer body onto the multi-roll feeder, aligning the printer body slots with the noses on the multi-roll feeder.
Figure : Lifting the printer body onto the multi-roll feeder
  3. Insert the two screws (bag A) with washers through the holes and into the holes in the printer body on the left and right. Do not tighten. To find the screw threads, slightly adjust the printer position by moving it towards the front or back of the multi-roll feeder.
Figure : Inserting the two screws (bag A)
  4. From the rear of the multi-roll feeder, pass the parallel and serial cables at the back of the multi-roll feeder connector panel into the multi-roll feeder media cabinet so that they can be accessed from the front.
Figure : Passing the parallel and serial cables into the media cabinet
  5. Go to the front of the multi-roll feeder, open the doors, and from inside the cabinet connect the parallel cable (and the serial cable for model numbers C6074A and C6075A only).
  6. At the rear of the multi-roll feeder, insert the printer power cord, and the network cable if present, through the left rear side of the multi-roll feeder, and connect to the rear of the printer body. Clip in the cables.
