HP Designjet 10ps, 20ps, 50ps, 30 and 30n Printers - Loading Sheet Media

Tray specifications

The table below contains information about the trays that come with the HP Designjet 10ps, 20ps, 50ps, 30 and 30n printers.
Feature
Specification
Tray 1
Tray 1 (the upper tray) holds up to 150 sheets of media. It is recommended that this tray be used to hold media sizes and types that are commonly used.
Tray 2
Tray 2 (the lower tray) holds up to 250 sheets of media. Tray 2 allows greater media flexibility with the ability to put different media types in different trays. Tray 2 comes with the HP Designjet 20ps and 50ps printers, and can be purchased separately for the HP Designjet 10ps printer (HP part number C7794A).
Alternative Media Feed
Tray 1 (the upper tray) has a by-pass slot that takes ten sheets of media. The alternative media feed slot is intended for seldom-used media types. This slot can also be used to print on the back of an already printed sheet, as an alternative to using the duplexer, or if the duplexer does not give the correct orientation of the image on the paper.
Rear Manual Path
The rear manual feed is designed to provide a straight media path for printing on thicker media up to 0.52 mm such as cardstock or labels, without bending. This media path takes only single sheets.

Loading media in tray 1

  1. Remove tray 1.
  2. To change the media size setting in the tray, go to step 3. To load media using the existing tray setting, go to step 5.
  3. Slide the length and width guides to accommodate the media size being loaded.
  4. If loading media sizes larger than legal-size or B4-size, the tray must be extended. Release the tray lock in the lower left corner by sliding it left. Extend the tray to position 2 for media up to A3-size, or extend the tray to position 3 for media up to A3+-size.
  5. Insert media, printable side down, within the media guides.
  6. Slide width and length media guides to secure the media in place.
  7. Tap the left side of the stack of media to ensure that it is flush to the right side of the tray.
  8. Replace tray 1.

Loading media in tray 2

  1. Remove tray 2.
  8. Replace tray 2.

Loading media in the alternative media feed

  1. Extend the output tray shelf for media larger than 8.5 x 11.
  2. Lay up to 10 sheets of media on the output tray - flush to the right - with the printable side down.
  3. Lift the tab, just right of center, on the entry platen.
  4. Slide the width media guide to secure the media against the right edge.
  5. Manually feed the media into the slot until it stops.
  6. The printer then automatically feeds one sheet at a time.
    note:
When media is loaded in the Alternative Media Feed, the printer will default to the Alternative Media Feed mechanism, overriding any software settings for tray selections.

Loading media in the rear manual path through

  1. Set the software to select media from rear manual feed and send the print job.
  2. Insert single-sheet media, printable side up, in the rear feed slot until it stops.
  3. The printer then automatically feeds the media through to the output tray.
