HP Designjet 500PS Printer - Software Readme File

Introduction

The following information is from the HP Designjet 500PS Readme file and contains late-breaking information that was not available at the time the User's Guide was written.

Uninstalling the HP Designjet 500PS RIP software on Windows NT

In Windows NT, after uninstalling and restarting, the following event message may be displayed: One service start up has failed, and in the Event Viewer it is recorded that "Service 1281 had problems to start up due to incorrect path".
To resolve this issue please run the 1284Remove.exe program located on the CD in the Util Folder.

Printing CMYK files from unknown sources

When printing CMYK files, please refer to the Advanced Printing section of the User's Guide. There may be instances when it is necessary to print a CMYK file previously created from an unknown source. In this case, it is best to check "Use Color Correction" in the Print tab of the Setup properties dialog box. Also, choose "SWOP Coated" as the CMYK ICC Input Profile, along with the appropriate ICC Output Profile.
If the output is not satisfactory, select a different CMYK ICC Input Profile. Since the source is unknown, this process of trial and error is required.

Troubleshooting information

Unhappy with color of printout

  • Check to ensure the correct ICC Output profile is selected.
  • Verify that all ink cartridges are working and none are running low.
  • Verify whether the file is CMYK or RGB and turn off or on color correction accordingly. See the Advanced Printing section of the User Guide for details.
  • Try a different rendering intent.
  • Double check the print mode & resolution.

Printout has banding

  • Verify that all ink cartridges are working and none are running low.
  • Print the test print file included with the HP Designjet 500PS RIP Software. This test file will show if there are any failing printheads. The output should be solid, saturated color bars.
  • Double check the print mode & resolution.

CPSI Errors during RIP process

This error is caused by insufficient memory to start the RIP process.
  1. Quit any unnecessary applications which may be running.
  2. Verify the spool settings.
    1. In Printer Properties right-click on the HP Designjet 500PS printer and choose properties.
    2. Within the Details tab is Spool Settings, choose Print Directly to the Printer inside this dialog.
  3. Increase RAM to recommended size.
  4. In Windows NT, increase the amount of Virtual Memory.

Printing extremely slow

  • Verify the PC supports ECP in BIOS.
  • Verify that an IEEE 1284 cable is connected to the printer.

Spool 32 Errors in Windows 95

  1. Verify sufficient available hard drive space (May need to delete any old print jobs from print monitor).
  2. Verify the spool settings.
    1. In Printer Properties right-click on the HP Designjet 500PS printer and choose Properties.
    2. Within the Details tab is Spool Settings, choose Print Directly to the Printer inside this dialog.
