HP Designjet 5000 and 5500 Series Printers - Downloading Media Printing Profiles

What is a media profile?

Each supported media has specific characteristics. For optimum image quality, the printer changes the way it prints for each type of media. Some media may require more ink, and some may require longer drying time. The printer must have a description of each media's printing requirements. This description is called a media profile.
Existing media profiles for the printer are already installed in the software. However, periodically new media types become available. New media profiles will be available for download from the Hewlett-Packard Web site.

Downloading media profiles

note:
Using HP-provided media profiles assures optimal color reproduction from the printer.
Click here to download media profiles from the HP business support website at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?locale=en_US.
  1. Click download drivers and software.
  2. Choose printers.
  3. Select the appropriate HP Designjet printer family.
  4. Now select the correct printer model within the printer family.
  5. Locate the correct operating system from the list at the top of the page. If a media profile exists for that system, click the file link to begin the download.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  7. When the media profile downloads to the PC or Apple Macintosh, open the HP System Maintenance Application.
  8. Select the Media Profile Download option, and follow the onscreen commands. This program takes the media profile that was previously downloaded from the Web page, and installs it into the printer’s software.
    note:
The System Maintenance Application is supplied on the CD-ROM included with the printer.
It has been reported that some media profiles fail to download to the Designjet 5500 when following the instructions for downloading at designjet.hp.com. Upgrading to StuffIt version 8.01 has been known to correct this issue for some of the problematic media profiles. Using winzip extractor has also proven effective.
