HP Electrostatic 7600 Series Plotter - Calibrating a 7600 Series Plotter

Issue:
HP 7600 Series Electrostatic Plotter does not plot drawings at the correct scale. How to calibrate the plotter.
Solution
To adjust the calibration of the plotter output in the axis of media movement (X-axis), perform the following procedure:
  note:
The following is for Models 250, 255 and 355 only.
  caution:
Calibrations must be done on HP approved polyester film, because it is environmentally stable. Calibrations done on paper or vellum will lead to inaccurate results.
  1. Plot two lines in the X-axis. Below are two sample programs.
    Program (1) will draw a 12 inch line, then draw a 20 inch Line.
    Program (2) will draw a 10 inch square box, then draw a 20 inch square box.
    Program (1)
    1. Enter the Program into a text editor, then save it as an ASCII text file called C:\LINES.PLT
      IN;SC0,44,0,34;SP1;PA16,17;PD28,17;PU;SP0;PG;
      SP1;PA12,17;PD32,17;PU;SP0;PG;
    2. Copy the file to the plotter. The following example assumes the plotter is connected to LPT1 and the computer is using DOS for its operating system.
      Type the following commands at the DOS prompt in the root directory:
      MODE LPT1:,,P
      COPY/B LINES.PLT LPT1
    Program (2)
    1. Enter the Program into a text editor, then save it as an ASCII text file called C:\BOX.PLT
      IN;SP1;PA1016,1016;ER10160,10160;SP0;PG;
      SP1;PA1016,1016;ER20320,20320;SP0;PG;
    2. Copy the file to the plotter. The following example assumes the plotter is connected to LPT1 and the computer is using DOS for its operating system.
      Type the following commands at the DOS prompt in the root directory:
      MODE LPT1:,,P
      COPY/B BOX.PLT LPT1
      note:
    Use an instrument capable of measuring line length to within 0.254 mm (0.01 in.) when performing step 2 below.
  2. Measure the lines or box in the X-axis (Media advance direction) and perform the following computation for each line:
    ACTUAL MEASURED LENGTH ( DESIRED LENGTH X 100 = % of desired
  3. Enter the Plotters Service Menu by pressing SCROLL( (down)and DIAGNOSTICS buttons simultaneously.
  4. The select arrow will appear at the SET CAL line.
  5. Press the Value + or Value - button to select the average of the values computed [(Valuel + Value 2) ( 2]. Holding down the button will continuously increase the value displayed. The range is 90.00 to 110.00 in increments of hundredths.
  6. When the desired value is displayed, press Enter. The display will show: PROCESSING COMMAND
  7. The value will be stored, and the display will return with the value that you entered.
