HP ColorPro Plotter - Graphics Enhancement Cartridge (GEC)
Issue:
Defining the GEC.
Solution
The GEC is a cartridge that plugs into a slot on the bottom of the ColorPro. It adds 14 additional HP-GL instructions including the ability to:
-
Draw arcs and circles,
-
Outline and fill polygons,
-
Use 14 more character sets.
Additionally, the cartridge gives the plotter extended RS-232-C handshaking capability, including an Input/Output (I/O) buffer size of 1024 bytes.
Summary
There are four types of people who will need the cartridge's capability:
-
Programmers who write their own software and use arc, circle, polygon and wedge HP-GL commands or require a larger RS-232-C buffer (1024 bytes rather than the standard 60 bytes).
-
HP 3000 customers who use HP Draw or DSG/3000 on the RS-232-C port. (HP 3000 customers who use the HP-IB port do not need the cartridge.)
-
International customers who require International Standards Organization (ISO) character sets.
-
Macintosh computer users who have drivers written by SoftStyle or Computer Shoppe.
