HP LaserJet 8000, 8100, 8150 series Printers - HP LaserJet 3000 Sheet Stacker and Stapler/Stacker Installation Instructions

Installing the HP 3000-sheet stacker and HP 3000-sheet stapler/stacker (C4779x and C4788x)
  note:
The printer shown may not represent the particular model being setup.
  caution:
Make sure to turn on the output device after the shipping locks have been removed and the output device has been connected to the printer. Failure to do so on older stackers and stapler/stackers may result in damage to the output device.
  1. Remove the printer’s left output bin (if installed), and turn the printer off (button out).

  2. Unlock the wheels, and raise the stabilizing legs.

  3. Disconnect and remove the printer’s power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet.

  4. Position the output device upright. Remove the packing tape and all the packaging material from the outside of the output device.

  5. Stacker only: Remove the shipping locks.

  6. Stapler/Stacker only: Remove the shipping locks.

  7. Stapler/Stacker only: Lower the connecting rod, and open the stapler door.

  8. Stapler/Stacker only: Remove the shipping lock from the stapler.

      note:
    The stapler/stacker comes with staples already installed.
  9. Position the output device to the side of the printer.

  10. Align the mounting bracket guides with the two alignment marks on the side of the input device or printer stand.

  11. Make sure that the mounting bracket is aligned squarely with the input device or printer stand.

  12. Push the mounting bracket up until it snaps into the slots underneath the input device or printer stand.

  13. Attach and secure the communications cable to the lower connector on the input device.

  14. Push the output device toward the printer until it is attached properly.

  15. Connect the power cable to the power box.

  16. If there is a gap between the printer and the output device, adjust the casters on the output device until there is no gap.
      note:
    The gap might be at the top or at the bottom.

  17. Attach the Face-up bin and the Stacker bin.
    1. Attach the Face-up bin to the output device. When attaching the Face-up bin, be careful not to damage the bin-full face-up flag.
    2. Attach the Stacker bin to the output device.
        note:
      When the supporting bracket for the Stacker bin is extended to the full upright position, blocking the two sensors will allow it to be lowered. These sensors are located in the inner stacker wall directly below the orange flag. Block the two holes with fingertips until the supporting back lowers at least six inches, then turn off the printer.

  18. Position the printer in its permanent location, and lock the wheels down.
      caution:
    The output device wheels do not swivel. Move the wheels carefully to avoid breaking the connecting rod.

  19. Rotate the feet of the stabilizing legs until they are snug against the floor.
      warning:
    An unstable printer can tip over and cause injury. Verify that the printer is secured properly.

  20. Reconnect the power cord to the AC power outlet and to the power box.

      caution:
    Make sure to turn on the output device after the shipping locks have been removed and the output device has been connected to the printer. Failure to do so on older stackers and stapler/stackers may result in damage to the output device.
  21. Turn the printer on (button in). Wait for the power-on cycle. Make sure that the light on the front of the output device is green. If the light is amber, flashing, or off, see the Output Device User Guide for more information.

  22. From the printer driver (under Setup/Properties/Accessories), add the Stacker or the Stapler/Stacker.
      note:
    The most current version of the software may need to be installed.

Uninstalling the output device
  1. Turn the printer off, and disconnect the power cords.

  2. Move the output device away from the printer, and disconnect the C-link cables.

  3. To release the mounting bracket, squeeze the release tabs, and lower the bracket from the input device or printer stand.

  4. Before moving the output device, press the tabs on the connecting rod, and raise the rod to its upright position.
