HP IP/IPX Printer Gateway - Discontinued, Printing a Test Page from the IP/IPX Gateway

HP Gateway Discontinuance
  note:
HP has a strong commitment to provide support for Novell products. With this commitment in mind, HP has been providing the HP IP/IPX Printer Gateway for NDPS (HP Gateway) to enable printing on Novell networks. However, after careful testing and evaluation, HP believes that the Novell SNMP Printer Gateway (Novell Gateway) is the preferred solution for enabling printing on Novell networks. Therefore, the HP Gateway product has been discontinued as of January 1, 2005.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Novell Gateway as soon as possible. For information about migrating to the Novell Gateway, click here to go to the Novell support Web site. Search for NDPS Printer Agent Conversion Utility.
Printing a test page from the IP/IPX Gateway
Print a simple text test page, using the Configure HP Printer Gateway Parameters screen, to a specific physical printer. The test page helps verify the printing path and the actual connection between the HP IP/IPX Printer Gateway and the printer.
  1. Assuming that the Broker, NDPSM (Manager) and HPGate (Gateway) are loaded correctly, go to step 3.
  2. If the broker or manager are not loaded or it is unclear if they are, follow these steps:
    1. Make sure that the broker.nlm is loaded. If it is not, type load broker at the server
    2. console prompt and select the name of the Broker.
    3. Make sure that the NDPS Manager object is created in the NDS tree (by way of NetWare Administrator). Refer to Novell documentation on creating this object, if necessary.
    4. Make sure that the ndpsm.nlm is loaded. If it is not, type load ndpsm.nlm at the server console prompt and select the appropriate NDPS Manager name.
    5. Type "load hpgate" at the server console prompt. Go to step 5.
  3. From the Novell NetWare command prompt, press CTRL+ESC (Control and Escape) to view the Current Screens menu.
  4. Type the number that corresponds with the HPNDPS Console Screen option, then press ENTER. This will open the HP Gateway.
  5. Choose Printer Gateways from the Main menu.
  6. Arrow down to highlight the printer you wish to send a test page to, once selected, then press ENTER. The Configure HP Gateway Parameters screen will appear.
  7. Arrow down to the Print a test page option, and highlight now.
  8. Once highlighted, press ENTER.
  9. A message will read, "Please wait for the test page to print <press ESCAPE to continue>". Press ESCAPE when the test page is complete.
      note:
This test page is text only. It does not use Postscript(R).
