HP Jornada 520, 525, 540, 545, 547, 548, 564, 565, 567, 568, 710, 720, and 728 - Resolving Syncing Error 5455 in AvantGo

Introduction
During Synchronization, the following error occurs, and synchronization stops “Error 5455: Can't find Internet connection”
This document lists possible causes for this error, and gives the steps to resolve these issues.
Resolution
“Error 5455: Can't find Internet connection”can be caused by one or more of the following.
Your server is not recognizing the host name (sync.avantgo.com)
Resolve this issue by changing the AvantGo hostname on the HP Jornada to an IP number, and then testing the connection from the desktop PC.
Changing the host name
To change the DNS settings, follow these steps on the HP Jornada:
  1. Tap Start, then Settings.
  2. Follow the steps below for the appropriate model.
    • HP Jornada 710, 720, or 728
      1. Tap Control Panel.
      2. Double-tap Mobile Link.
    • HP Jornada 520, 525, 540, 545, 547, 548 564, 565, 567, or 568
      1. Tap the Connections tab.
      2. Tap AvantGo Connect.
  3. Select the AvantGo server, and tap Properties.
  4. Enter the following
    • Hostname: 64.157.224.7
    • Port: 80
  5. Tap OK twice to save the new settings.
  6. Synchronize the HP Jornada to the desktop PC.
Testing the connection
To test the connection, follow these steps on the desktop PC:
  1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, then AvantGo Connect.
  2. Select the correct device and the AvantGo server.
  3. Click the Connection tab.
  4. Click Autodetect Now.
  5. If an error occurs, follow these steps:
    1. On the Autodetect Network Connection window, click Show Details.
    2. Click Copy Log to Clipboard.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Paste the complete error message into an e-mail to AvantGo support.
There is no connection to the Internet
There must be an open Internet session while syncing. Make sure the desktop PC is connected to the Internet. If using the device in wireless mode, see Wireless Browsing for more information.
The AvantGo Connect settings are incorrect
Resolve this issue by modifying the DNS (Domain Name Server) settings and proxy information on the desktop PC.
  note:
Ask your administrator for the proxy hostname or IP address and the port number.
  1. Click Start, Programs, AvantGo, then Mobile Link.
  2. Select the correct device and the AvantGo server.
  3. Click the Connections tab.
  4. Click Change.
  5. Enter the following on the HTTP line
    • Hostname: (type the address of your proxy server).
    • Port: (type the port number for your proxy servers).
  6. Uncheck Automatically Detect Settings.
  7. Click OK, and then click Close to save changes.
  8. Synchronize the HP Jornada to the desktop PC.
