HP Jornada, Palmtop, and Omnigo - Removing Batteries

Introduction
This document describes how to remove the main and backup battery from an HP Jornada, Palmtop, or Omnigo device.
  caution:
Removing both the backup and main batteries will permanently erase all data if the device is not attached to AC power.
Backup batteries
The backup battery protects the data when the main battery runs out of power. The backup battery should be replaced at least every six months: sooner if the device is operated with a low main battery. If the backup battery becomes drained, the device will begin to lose data and behave abnormally. All backup batteries are CR2032 batteries that are generally found wherever batteries are sold.
Main batteries
The main battery provides power to the device when it is not connected to AC power. Click here to buy replacement batteries online from HP or other retailers. Removing the main battery is one of the steps in resetting all information on a device.

The information in the following table applies only to HP Jornada devices.
  caution:
Replacing the batteries in proper order is crucial. Replace the main battery, connect the device to AC power, and then replace the backup batteries (when applicable).
