HP Jornada and Palmtop PC - 'Ins5576 Has Caused an Error in'

Issue
During ActiveSync installation, the following message displays when the installation is 99 percent complete. After the error message, ActiveSync does not function:
"_ins5576 has caused an error in <unknown>"
Clicking Details displays the following error message (where XXXX:XXXXXXX: is a memory register):
"_ins5576 has caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at XXXX:XXXXXXX"
Try the solutions below. The solutions offered here may not work in every situation. For assistance in completing the suggested solutions or for additional solutions, contact HP using the contact information contained at the bottom of this document.
Solution 1
  1. Click Start, Run
  2. Type msconfig and click OK.
  3. In the lower right corner of the window that opens, click on Advanced.
  4. Put a checkmark in Disable udf file System.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Try installing ActiveSync again.
Solution 2
To resolve this error message, complete the following steps:
  1. Click Start, Find, and then Files and Folders on the desktop PC.
  2. Type WCESMgr.exe in the Named field.
  3. Click the down arrow in the Look in field and select Local Hard Drives.
  4. Click Find Now.
  5. Right-click the WCESMgr.exe file in the search results and select Create a Shortcut. A message will display stating “Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?”
  6. Click Yes. This creates a shortcut to ActiveSync on the desktop.
  7. Double-click the shortcut. If ActiveSync does not open and begin connecting, try Solution 3 and/or 4.
Solution 3 (Windows 98SE/Me and ActiveSync 3.0/3.1 Only)
Microsoft(R) Support document Q299393 provides a solution that may fix the problem, but should only be used by intermediate to advanced users. For assistance in completing the suggested solution, contact HP using the contact information contained at the bottom of this document.
This suggestion works only for Windows 98SE and Windows Me operating systems and Microsoft ActiveSync 3.0 and 3.1. This support document can be found by visiting the Microsoft Knowledge Base Search Web site and typing Q299393 in the My Question Is field and then clicking Go.
Solution 4 (Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft Office 2000 Only)
Microsoft Support document Q268454 provides a solution that may fix the problem, but should only be used by intermediate to advanced users. For assistance in completing the suggested solution, contact HP using the contact information contained at the bottom of this document.
This suggestion works only for computers with Windows NT 4.0, Office 2000, ActiveSync 3.0, and 3.1. This support document can be found by visiting the Microsoft Knowledge Base Search Web site and typing Q268454 in the My Question Is field and then clicking Go.
