HP 300LX Series Palmtop PCs - Palmtop Fails to Respond to Keystroke

Introduction
The HP 300LX series Palmtop PC fails to respond to keystrokes.
Solution
If an HP 300LX series Palmtop PC fails to respond to keystrokes, or there are other difficulties, perform the following steps:
  1. Attempt to power on the unit by pressing the spacebar (which is also the ON key).
  2. Adjust the contrast of the display by pressing ALT and > to darken the background, or by pressing ALT and < to lighten the background.
  3. Reset the HP 300LX series Palmtop PC. Please note that resetting the machine causes any unsaved information to be lost. To reset the machine:
    1. Remove the backup battery door (see Figure 1) on the bottom of the HP 300LX series Palmtop PC.
        note:
The CR2032 backup battery should be replaced AT LEAST every 6 months: sooner if the battery is run on low power. A low backup battery may cause additional problems.

    2. Press and release the red reset button inside the backup battery compartment with the tip of the stylus.
    3. Repeat the process once, if necessary.
  4. If the HP 300LX series Palmtop PC fails to respond, verify that the machine has adequate power. This can be achieved by installing fresh main batteries, or by ensuring that the AC adapter is snugly inserted into both the machine and the wall outlet.
  5. Verify that the upgradeable ROM is properly seated. Remove the ROM door, then gently press on the ROM card to ensure that it is inserted completely.
  6. If the previous procedures have not corrected the problem, initialize the system.
      note:
This procedure will return the HP 300LX series Palmtop PC to its factory-default condition, and all user-stored data will be erased.
    To initialize the system:
    1. Remove the main batteries, then remove the backup battery.
    2. Allow the unit to sit without power for at least five minutes.
    3. Reinstall the main batteries, then reinstall the backup battery. The main batteries must be installed before the backup battery is inserted.
    4. Open the HP 300LX series Palmtop PC and press the spacebar.
  7. If initializing the system did not restore use of the HP 300LX series Palmtop PC, the machine may require service. Contact HP Customer Care to arrange for service.
