HP Business Inkjet 2600 Series Printers - Diagnosing a Faulty Printhead

Issue:
How is a faulty printhead diagnosed?
Solution
Follow the steps below to diagnose a faulty printhead.
  1. Turn the printer on and open the printhead access cover. See Figure 1.
  2. Open the purple printhead latch. See Figure 1.

  3. Turn off the printer by unplugging the power cable from either the back of the printer or the power outlet.
  4. Remove the printheads by pulling up on the blue plastic handle on each printhead. See Figure 2.

  5. Clean the copper contacts on the back of the printheads with a coffee filter or clean, dry, lint-free cloth. The contacts are shown in red in Figure 3.
  6. Clean the printhead contacts inside the printer using a coffee filter or clean, dry, lint-free cloth. See Figure 3.

  7. Latch the purple printhead cover and close all covers. There should not be any printheads installed in the printer.
  8. Remove the network or parallel interface cable from the printer.
  9. Plug in the power cable. The printer should turn on. If not, turn on the printer.
      note:
    All of the ink cartridges must be installed in the printer to test the printheads. If all of the ink cartridges are not installed, the LCD panel will display the message ATTENTION SOME INK CARTRIDGES/PRINTHEADS MISSING.
      note:
    Close all covers after each printhead is inserted in the following steps.
  10. The message, ATTENTION BLACK PRINTHEAD, CYAN PRINTHEAD, MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, AND YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING, should appear on the LCD panel. Insert the black printhead and close all covers.
    • If the message ATTENTION CYAN PRINTHEAD, MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, AND YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING appears, the black printhead is functioning properly. Continue with step 11.
    • If a message other than ATTENTION CYAN PRINTHEAD, MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, AND YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING appears, the black printhead may be faulty and should be replaced.
  11. The message, INSERT CYAN PRINTHEAD, MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, YELLOW PRINTHEAD should appear on the LCD panel. Insert the cyan printhead and close all covers.
    • If the message ATTENTION MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, AND YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING appears, the cyan printhead is functioning properly. Continue with step 12.
    • If a message other than ATTENTION MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, AND YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING appears, the cyan printhead may be faulty and should be replaced.
  12. The message, ATTENTION MAGENTA PRINTHEAD MISSING, YELLOW PRINTHEAD MISSING appears on the LCD panel. Insert the magenta printhead and close all covers.
    • If the message YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING appears, the magenta printhead is functioning properly. Continue with step 13.
    • If a message other than ATTENTION YELLOW PRINTHEAD IS MISSING appears, the magenta printhead may be faulty and should be replaced.
  13. The message, ATTENTION YELLOW PRINTHEAD MISSING, appears on the LCD panel. Insert the yellow printhead and close all covers.
    • If the message READY appears, the yellow printhead is functioning properly.
    • If a message other than READY appears, the yellow printhead may be faulty and should be replaced.
