HP Business Inkjet 2200 and 2250 Series Printers - Uninstalling the HPA, PCL 5C, and PostScript (R) Printer Driver

Overview
There are three ways to uninstall the HP Business Inkjet 2200 and 2250 series printer driver from a computer. The correct method depends on the way the driver is installed and whether a previous attempt to uninstall it failed. The three methods are as follows:
  • Uninstall the printer driver by using the uninstaller located in the HP Business Inkjet program group.
  • Delete the HP Business Inkjet printer icon(s) from the Printers window.
  • Manually uninstall the printer driver(s).
Uninstalling the printer driver using the uninstaller
An uninstaller will be created if the printer driver is installed from the Starter CD, from floppy disks (created with the Make Disk Utility), or from a network location using the driver SETUP.EXE installation software. The uninstaller may be used to remove selected components or all the components that were installed. Removing all components will remove all files from the computer that were loaded by the installation software during a normal or failed installation.
  1. Restart Windows (select Start, ShutDown, and Restart).
  2. Select Start, Programs, HP Business Inkjet, and Uninstaller.
  3. Select Remove All (default), and select Next. To select which components to uninstall, select Remove Components and Next.
  4. If Remove Components was selected in Step 3, select the components to remove by clicking the box next to the component. A checkmark will appear in those boxes. Once all the components to remove have been selected, click Next.
  5. When the message, "Uninstall completed," appears, select OK.
      note:
If the uninstaller fails to complete successfully, restart Windows, reinstall the printer driver to connect to LPT1 (the printer does not need to be physically connected to the LPT1 port), and run the uninstaller again using the “Remove All” feature.
If the uninstaller still fails to complete successfully, the printer driver can be manually uninstalled by following the steps in the “Manually uninstalling the printer driver” section.
Uninstalling the printer driver without an uninstaller
If the printer driver was installed using Add Printer Wizard, Point and Print, or Plug and Play, an uninstaller will not be created. To remove the printer driver, delete all the HP Business Inkjet entries from the Printers window using the instructions that follow:
  note:
If any of the HP Business Inkjet printer entries were created by running the SETUP.EXE installer, the uninstaller can be used to remove all copies of the printer driver; including those created using Add Printer, Point and Print, and Plug or Play installation methods.
  1. Select Start, Settings, and Printers.
  2. Right-click the HP Business Inkjet 2200/2250,HP Business Inkjet 2250 PS, or HP Business Inkjet 2250 PCL 5C icon, and select Delete.
  3. Select Yes to confirm the deletion of the printer.
  4. When prompted to delete the printer files, select Yes.
      note:
The prompt to delete the printer files will not appear until the last occurrence of each HP Business Inkjet printer is removed from the Printer window. If there are multiple entries for the HP Business Inkjet printer, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until all the HP Business Inkjet printer entries are deleted.
  5. If warned that the default printer has been deleted, select OK.
  6. Close the Printers window.
Manually uninstalling the printer driver
If, for some reason, running the uninstaller or deleting the HP Business Inkjet icon(s) from the Printers windows does not completely remove the printer driver, the printer driver may be manually uninstalled from the system using the steps below:
Removing the program group
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Right-click Start, select Open, and double-click Programs.
  3. Right-click the HP Business Inkjet icon, and select Delete.
  4. Select Yes to confirm sending the icon to the Recycle Bin.
  5. Close all open windows.
Removing the Toolbox icon from the desktop
  1. Right-click the HP Business Inkjet Toolbox icon located on the Windows desktop, and select Delete.
  2. Select Yes to confirm sending the icon to the Recycle Bin.
Removing the printer from the Printers window
  1. Select Start, Settings, and Printers.
  2. Right-click the HP Business Inkjet 2200/2250,HP Business Inkjet 2250 PS, or HP Business Inkjet 2250 PCL 5C icon, and select Delete.
  3. When asked to confirm the deletion, select Yes.
  4. When prompted to delete the printer files, select Yes.
      note:
The prompt to delete the printer files will not appear until the last occurrence of each HP Business Inkjet printer is removed from the Printers window. If there are multiple entries for the printer, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until all the HP Business Inkjet printer entries are deleted.
  5. If warned that the default printer has been deleted, select OK.
  6. Close the Printers window.
Removing the files used by the printer
  1. In Windows NT 4.0, 95 and 98, select Start, Find, and Files or Folders. In Windows Me and 2000, select Start, Search, For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type HPW7*, and select Find Now.
  3. When the search results appear at the bottom of the window, select Edit and Select All.
  4. Select File and Delete.
  5. When asked to confirm the deletion, select Yes.
  6. Select Yes to All to delete all of the printer driver program files.
  7. In the Named box, type HPB*, and select Find Now.
      caution:
Steps 7 through 10 remove the files used by the PCL 5C printer driver. These files are not unique to this printer. If other HP printers are installed that support the PCL 5 language, deleting these files may prevent them from working properly. If there are other HP PCL 5 printers contained in the Printers window, skip to Step 11.
  8. When the search results appear at the bottom of the window, select Edit and Select All.
  9. Select File and Delete.
  10. Select Yes to All to delete all of the printer driver program files.
  11. In the Named box, type *hp22*.INF and select Find Now.
  12. When the search results appear at the bottom of the window, highlight the printer's .INF files such as HP2200P3.INF or HEWLETT-PACKARDHP2200P3.INF that are located in the C:\WINNT\INF or C:\WINDOWS\INF and C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER folders.
  13. Select File and Delete.
  14. When asked to confirm the deletion, select Yes.
  15. Close the Find window, and restart Windows.
Removing the printer from the registry
The following steps may be used to remove the registry entries for the HP Business Inkjet 2200 and 2250 series printers.
  caution:
Use extreme caution when deleting entries from the Windows registry. Once a registry entry is deleted there may be no way to restore it. Deleting the wrong registry entry may prevent some applications, including Windows, from working properly. Before deleting an entry from the registry, ensure that the entry relates specifically to an HP Business Inkjet printer.
  1. Select Start and Run.
  2. In the Open box, type, REGEDIT, and click OK.
  3. Select Registry, Export Registry File, type HP in the File name box and click Save. This will create a backup of the Windows Registry named HP.REG that can be used to restore the Registry.
      note:
The registry editor may open in the middle of the registry, instead of at the top of the registry. If this happens, select My Computer, the first entry in the registry tree, before exporting the registry.
  4. In the Registry Editor, select Edit and Find.
  5. In the Find What box, type BUSINESS INKJET, and click Find Next.
  6. When an entry is found, ensure that it relates to the HP Business Inkjet 2200 or 2250 printer. If so, press DELETE on the keyboard, and click Yes to confirm the deletion. Continue searching for additional entries by pressing the F3 function key.
      note:
Other applications may have registry entries containing the value 2200 or 2250. Before deleting the entry, make sure it references the printer. If unsure whether a registry entry is for the HP Business Inkjet 2200 or 2250 series printer, do not delete the entry.
  7. Continue searching until a message indicates the search of the registry is complete, and click OK.
  8. Repeat Steps 4 - 6, and search for HPW7 instead of BUSINESS INKJET.
