HP Deskjet 350 Series Printer - Troubleshooting Infrared Printing

Issue:
What action should be taken if an infrared connection can not be established?
Solution
The HP Deskjet 350 series printer supports infrared printing using the HP Infrared Adapter (C3393A) with a PC/notebook computer running Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP with an IrDA-compliant port.
DETAILS: The sections below contain information to resolve problems with the infrared connection.
The HP Infrared Adapter’s light is off or blinking
  • Ensure the printer is within one meter (three feet) of the PC/notebook, with the swivel head of the HP Infrared Adapter pointing directly at the infrared port of the PC/notebook.
  • Ensure there are no obstacles between the infrared ports on the printer and the PC/notebook.
  • Ensure the infrared port of the PC/notebook is IrDA-compliant. Look for the IrDA logo in the documentation for the PC/notebook.
  • Ensure the port, IRQ, and I/O address values are correct.
  • Ensure there are no other infrared devices operating in the immediate area. It is also possible that sunlight or bright artificial light can interfere with infrared communication.
  • Clean the lenses on the HP Infrared Adapter and the PC’s infrared port.
The HP Infrared Adapter’s light is on, but nothing will print
  • Try printing with a parallel cable.
    1. Turn the printer off.
    2. Remove the HP Infrared Adapter from the printer and connect the printer to the PC/notebook with a printer cable.
    3. Turn the printer on.
        note:
The Port setting must be changed to LPT1 in the Printer Properties in order to print with the parallel cable.
    4. Click Start, Settings, and then Printers.
    5. Right-click HP Deskjet 350 Printer.
    6. Click Properties, and then click the Details tab.
    7. Change the Port setting to LPT1 and click OK.
  • If the printer does not print using a parallel cable, refer to the troubleshooting section of the HP Deskjet 350 series printer User’s Guide.
Contact the HP Customer Care Center or an HP-Authorized Reseller if further assistance is required.
