HP Deskjet 1220C Professional Series Printer - Preferences Tab

Introduction
The Preferences tab contains options for controlling the behavior of the Print Settings Confirmation dialog box, showing the printer status while printing, setting the drying time between pages, and for enabling or disabling the Media Width Sensor.
Accessing the driver preference settings
  note:
The steps provided below modify the printer driver's default settings through the Printer's window. All documents and applications will print using the modified settings.
Alternatively, most Windows applications allow the printer properties to be modified during the printing process, which normally affects only the current print job. Other documents and applications will print using the printer driver's default settings. To modify the driver preference settings from within the application, select File and then Print. Select the Properties or Setup button and then the Preferences tab.
Windows XP
  1. Click Start and then Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click the HP Deskjet 1220C Printer icon and choose Printing Preferences.
  3. Select the Preferences tab and make any desired changes.
  4. Choose OK to save and apply the changes.
Windows 2000
  1. Click Start, Settings, and then Printers.
  2. Right-click the HP Deskjet 1220C Printer icon and choose Printing Preferences.

Windows NT 4.0
  1. Select Start, Settings, and then Printers.

  3. Select the Preferences tab and make any desired changes.
  4. Choose OK to save and apply the changes.
Windows 95 and Windows 98
  1. Select Start, Settings, and then Printers.
  2. Right-click the HP Deskjet 1220C Printer icon and choose Properties.
  3. Select the Preferences tab and make any desired changes.
  4. Choose OK to save and apply the changes.
Windows 3.1x
  1. From Program Manager, open Main, Control Panel, and then Printers.
  2. Highlight the HP Deskjet 1220C Printer in the list of Installed Printers and then choose Setup.
  3. Select the Preferences tab and make any desired changes.
  4. Choose OK to save and apply the changes.
Quick Sets
Quick Sets allows the current printer driver settings to be saved for reuse. For convenience, Quick Sets can be restored and saved from most of the printer property tabs.
To create a Quick Set, set the desired printer driver options. Type a name for the Quick Set (for example "Quarterly Reports" or "My Project Status") and choose Save. When Quick Sets are created, all of the current driver settings are saved.
To restore a saved Quick Set, select the saved Quick Set from the drop-down list. To restore the printer back to the default installation settings, select Factory Defaults from the Quick Sets drop-down list.
At print time
Print immediately
Select this option to print immediately and not show the Print Preview or Print Settings Confirmation dialog boxes.
Show Print Preview
Select this option to preview the document before it prints. The Print Preview window shows how the document will print using the current driver settings, along with zooming capabilities. The Print Preview window also provides options for canceling the print job or selecting specific pages to print.
Show Print Settings Confirmation (resume printing after 60 seconds)
Select this option to allow conformation of the printer driver settings before printing a document. When the Print Settings Confirmation dialog box is displayed, some printing options may be changed (for example, Print Quality or Paper Type). A Print Preview button is also provided on the confirmation dialog to allow previewing the entire document before it prints.
Status options
Show status when printing
Select this option to display the Printer Status tab from the HP Deskjet 1220C Toolbox while a document is printing. The Printer Status tab displays the printer's current status and print cartridge ink levels. Bidirectional communication between the printer and computer must be working properly in order to display status information. The drop-down list displays the currently selected printer. The status window display area shows the printer’s status. The Cartridge Information window displays part number and status information about the installed print cartridges.
Dry Time
The Dry Time determines how long the printer will wait (in seconds) before printing another page. Each paper type has a default drying time.
Use printer default value
When selected, this option will use the paper type's default dry time. This should allow enough time for the ink on the page to dry before allowing another page to fall on top of it.
Use Custom Value (seconds)
This setting allows a custom dry time to be specified. To change the dry time used between pages, specify a value between 0 and 600 seconds.
Setting the Custom Value to 0 can disable dry time. However, printed pages may need to be removed from the output tray after each page is ejected to prevent any wet ink from smearing.
Media Width Sensor
If paper is too small, eject page and pause
For B-size paper (Tabloid, A3, B4, and Super B), the printer can detect whether the paper being printed on is wide enough. If the paper is not wide enough, the paper automatically ejects and the Resume light blinks. Pressing the RESUME button will eject additional pages until the correct paper size is inserted into the paper tray. If the correct paper size is inserted into the paper tray, the page will print. The job will cancel after 15 minutes if nothing is done when the Resume light flashes.
Disable Width Sensor (not recommended)
The printer will not attempt to detect if the paper is too small. This may cause the ink to print off of the paper and be sprayed on the inside of the printer. Use of this setting is not recommended.
Services
Align print cartridges
This button can be used to align the color and black print cartridges. After pressing the ALIGN PRINT CARTRIDGES button, follow the instructions on the screen to complete the cartridge alignment. In general, this button does not need to be used to align the print cartridges. The HP Deskjet 1220C series printer uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure that the print cartridges are aligned at all times.
Clean print cartridges
This button can be used to clear clogged ink from the nozzles of the color and black print cartridges. To clean the print heads, click Clean Print Cartridge and follow the instructions on the screen. Only clean the print cartridges when necessary since this procedure uses ink.
About
Selecting the About button will display the printer driver's About dialog box. The About dialog window shows the name of the printer, driver version, and copyright information.
