HP 2500C Professional Series Color Printer, HP Business Inkjet 2200 and 2250 Series Printers, and HP Designjet ColorPro CAD/GA Series Printers - Carriage Makes a Squeaking Noise When Printing

Issue:
The carriage makes a squeaking noise when printing.
Solution
Follow the instructions below:
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord.
  3. Move the carriage back and forth several times while cleaning the milky white strip that the carriage glides over using a clean, slightly damp, lint-free cloth and water. The white strip is located on top of the metal plate in front of the carriage assembly (see Figure 1).

  4. With a clean, slightly damp, lint-free cloth, carefully clean the encoder strip.
  5. Plug in the power cord and turn on the printer.
  6. Try a test print. If the printer is still squeaking when printing, tap several times on the spring loaded, white plastic gear, located in the right rear corner of the printer between the carriage rod and the encoder strip.
  7. If the printer is still squeaking when printing after trying all the steps above, the printer will require service.
