HP Printers - Install and Use the HP Smart App (Windows 10)

note:

HP Smart currently supports printing of PDF documents and most image files. Print other files types directly from their associated applications, such as Microsoft Word.

1. From the HP Smart app home screen, click Print Document or Print Photo.
2. Locate the PDF or photo in the Documents folder or Pictures library, or browse to another folder where the file might be saved.
3. Select the document or photo you want.
   A preview of the print job displays in the Microsoft Print Preview window.
4. From the Preview window, you can select a different printer or make any changes to the print settings, such as paper size or output quality, if necessary.
   
5. From the Preview window, click Print.
   The print Preview window closes, the printer prints your document or photo, and the app returns to the home screen.

1. From the HP Smart app home screen, click the Scan tile.
2. Click Get Started.
   The Scan window opens.

   note:

   The Get Started screen displays when you select Scan for the first time.

   
3. From the Scan window, change auto-enhancement and settings, such as document or photo type, page size, output type, source, and resolution to match the scan job.

   note:

   Auto-enhancements are automatically applied to give you the best scan quality.

4. Click Scan .
   A preview of the scan displays.
   
5. On the Preview window, you can add another page to your scan, reorder multi-page scans, change the file name or type, or edit the scan.

6. When you complete the edits, click Done.
   The Preview window displays any changes to the scan.
   
7. Use the features in the Preview window to work with your scan.
   • Print: Send your scan to your printer.
   • Save: The default save location for scanned documents is the Documents folder and the Pictures library for scanned photos. Save your scan in the default location or browse to a different folder.
   • Share: Send your scan in an email, share via social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, or save the scan in a cloud storage account, such as Box or OneDrive. You can also look for other apps in the Windows Store.
   • Smart Tasks: Create or use an existing shortcut for printing, emailing, or saving scanned files to cloud accounts.
   • Fax: Send your scan via fax.
8. After you save or share the scan job, click OK.

1. From the HP Smart app home screen, click Scan, and then click Camera.
2. Click Get Started.
   The Choose the Source window opens with a view from the webcam.

   note:

   The Get Started screen displays when you select Camera for the first time.

   
3. Hold a document or photo in front of the webcam or camera, and then click the red button to scan the item.
   An editable preview of the scan displays in the Adjust Boundaries window.
4. From the Adjust Boundaries window, click and hold one of the blue dots to manually adjust the border, or if you are satisfied with the scan job, click Apply.
   If the scan job is not satisfactory, click the back arrow to scan the item again.
   
5. From the Preview window, you can add another page to your scan, reorder multi-page scans, change the file name or type, or edit the scan.
6. When you complete the edits or additions, click Done.
   The Preview window displays any changes to the scan.
7. Use the features in the Preview window to work with your scan.
   • Print: Send your scan to your printer.

8. After you save or share the scan job, click OK.

2. Click Get Started, and then browse to the document or photo on your computer.

   note:

   The Get Started screen displays when you select Import for the first time.

7. After you save or share the import, click OK.

• Driver not installed: To install the print driver, use the Diagnose & Fix feature or go to 123.hp.com.
• Poor network connection: The network connection between the printer and the app is poor, and the app is unable to accurately obtain the printer status. Move the printer and computer closer to the wireless router. Try printing even if the app continues to display "offline."
• No network connection: The printer is no longer connected to the network or is not connected to the same network as your Windows device. Make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your device.
• Printer is in sleep power saving mode: The printer is in sleep mode or in power saving mode. Touch the printer control panel or press a button on the printer control panel to wake the printer, and then try printing even if the app continues to display "offline."
• Printer is off: Some printers have a feature to schedule a time to automatically turn off the printer. Make sure the printer is turned on and in a "ready" state, and then try printing even if the app continues to display "offline."

1. Click Add Printer or Plus sign on the Home screen.
   A list of available printers displays.
2. Click the printer you want to add.
   If your printer does not display, click Set Up a New Printer, and then follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.

1. Click Start in the lower-left corner of your desktop.
2. In the list of apps, scroll down the list until you find the HP Smart app tile. Choose the shortcut you want to create:
   • Pin to Start: Right-click the HP Smart app tile, and then select Pin to Start from the drop-down menu.
   • Pin to taskbar: Right-click the HP Smart app tile, select More, and then select Pin to taskbar from the drop-down menu.
   • Create a desktop shortcut: Select the HP Smart app tile, and then move the tile to the desktop.

1. In Windows, search for and open Apps & features.
   
2. Click HP Smart in the list of apps, and then click Uninstall.
