HP Universal Print Driver - HP EasyColor Does Not Work with Microsoft PowerPoint or Excel 2010

Introduction
HP EasyColor functionality works with all releases of Microsoft Office except for Excel 2010 and PowerPoint 2010. Starting with MS Office 2010, Excel 2010 and PowerPoint 2010 convert images from their original format to bitmap 5. This conversion prevents the HP UPD EasyColor functionality which is dependent on bitmap 9 (JPEG) and bitmap 10 (PNG) pass through for document images.
Background
Comparing MS Excel 2010 and PowerPoint 2010 to previous versions of these applications, loss of HP EasyColor’s functionality can create the following symptoms:
  • Larger spool file size, which can impact network performance, print performance, and available disk space.
  • Setting the HP EasyColor on the Color tab to selected (ON) or unselected (OFF) will have no operation impact for the printed job.
  • Decreased print quality for graphics.
Additional information
The HP EasyColor feature was first added to UPD v 4.7 for PCL6 Color and v5.0 for monochrome. HP EasyColor technology provides faster print, smaller print jobs, with improved print quality through enhanced sharpening and adaptive lighting for documents sent from MS Office applications, JPG and PNG images within a document.
HP EasyColor takes advantage of applications that support PNG and JPEG pass through. Examples of these applications are Microsoft Office applications. HP Easy Color will have no effect on PDF, Illustrator or Photoshop images as the technology differs from Microsoft Office applications.
