To restrict unauthorized user modification, follow the steps below to update the appropriate WLAN drivers, update HP Connection Manager to version 5.0.15.x or later, and edit the system Registry to change the registry value data.
NOTE: If HP Connection Manager 5.0.15.1 or later is already installed on the computer, proceed to Step 3.
Step 1: Update the appropriate wireless network driver.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to update the WLAN drivers before updating HP Connection Manager. Check Device Manager to confirm which WLAN card is installed on the computer and download and install the appropriate driver.
  1. Click Start.
  2. Type Device Manager in the Search field.
  3. Open Device Manager from the search list.
  4. Select and expand Network Adapters.
  5. Verify if the computer has an Intel WLAN card or an Broadcom WLAN card installed.
  6. Download and install the appropriate driver.

Step 3: Change Registry Value Data:

If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. HP cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.
IMPORTANT: Resolve this issue by changing the AllowLocationProfiles to False in the system Registry. Be sure to update the appropriate WWAN driver and HP Connection Manager prior to editing the Registry.

This registry change will prevent the ability for the user to change these settings in the future.
  1. Edit the Registry key.
  2. Click Start.
  3. Type Regedit in the Search field.
  4. Right-click Regedit and select Run as administrator.
  5. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\HP\HP Connection Manager.
  6. Right click AllowLocationProfiles.
  7. Select Modify.
  8. Change the AllowLocationProfiles value data to False.
  9. Select OK.
  10. Close the Registry Editor.
