HP PCs - Using HP Image Assistant

This document is for HP commercial PCs with Windows.

HP Image Assistant (HPIA) is a free tool that improves the quality and security of images on Windows computers. The tool diagnoses problems and recommends solutions. It also analyzes the readiness of a PC for migration between Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Installing HP Image Assistant (HPIA)

Download the utility using File Transfer Protocol.

Go to HP Image Assistant (HPIA).
In the SoftPaq Exe column, click the most recent file.
Click Open, Save, or Run in any windows that display to download the utility to your computer.
Double-click the HPIA setup file in the browser downloads bar or in the Downloads folder on the computer to launch the installation.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the utility.

Capturing and saving a system image

Capture and save a system image or create and save a proxy configuration.

In File Explorer, navigate to and open HPImageAssistant.exe.
Click Languages, and then select your language.
Click Tools, and then select a configuration type.
- Capture Target Image Configuration captures the system image of the PC you are using. Navigate to the desired location, and then save the file.
- Proxy Configuration allows you to create and save a proxy system image. Continue with these steps.
In the URL area, type the address and port for the proxy configuration in the appropriate fields.
In the Credential area, type the username, password, and domain for the proxy configuration in the appropriate fields.
Click Save.

Analyzing system image health and security

Analyze the health and security of a system image by comparing it to a reference image.

In File Explorer, navigate to and open HPImageAssistant.exe.
Click Languages, and then select your language.
Click the Analyze image tab.
In the Choose Target Image drop-down menu, select the PC you are using or browse to a saved system image.
In the Choose Reference Image drop-down menu, select the PC you are using, browse to a saved system image, or choose to use a reference system image from HP.
Click Analyze.

HP Image Assistant compares the target image to the reference image and displays health and security results and recommendations.
Click File to save or export the recommendations.

Analyzing migration readiness

Analyze how ready a system is to migrate to Windows 10 or Windows 7.

In File Explorer, navigate to and open HPImageAssistant.exe.
Click Languages, and then select your language.
Click the Migrate OS tab.
In the Choose System drop-down menu, select the PC you are using or browse to a saved system image.
Select the operating system and partition that the PC is to be migrated to in the Choose OS & Partition drop-down menu.
Select the WinPE operating system that the PC is to be migrated to in the Choose WinPE OS drop-down menu.
Select the TPM version that the PC is to be migrated to in the Choose TPM Version drop-down menu.
Click Analyze.

HP Image Assistant analyzes system readiness for migration and displays a summary and recommendations.
To download recommended items, select the desired items, and then click Download.

note:
To select packages of items for download, choose a package in the Select Packages to Download/Apply drop-down menu.
Click File to save or export the recommendations.

Downloading SoftPaqs

Download the SoftPaqs for your computer using HPIA.

In File Explorer, navigate to and open HPImageAssistant.exe.
Click Languages, and then select your preferred language.
Click the Download SoftPaqs tab.
In Step 1 Create My Products List, click Create to open the Edit My Products List.
Click the drop-down menu for Select operating system and select your operating system.
Select your product from HP Product Catalog menu or use the Search box and search for your product by name or number. For example, you could search for EliteBook or 800.
Click Apply.
In Step 2 Select from My Products List, select your product or products.
In Step 3 Get SoftPaqs click Analyze, and then wait while HPIA retrieves and downloads the Image configuration from HP.

The Available SoftPaqs tab lists the SoftPaqs available for the selected computers.
Click the drop-down menu for Select Components to Download/Apply, and then select the components you want to download.
Click the pencil icon to select the columns you want to display in the table, and then click OK.
Click the spreadsheet icon to name, save, and export the CSV (comma delimited) file, and the click Save.
Click Download. The download button displays the number of items.
Choose to Download SoftPaq(s) only or to Download and extract SoftPaqs, and then click Start.

Getting drivers

Get the latest drivers for your computer using HPIA.

In File Explorer, navigate to and open HPImageAssistant.exe.
Click Languages, and then select your language.
Click the Get Drivers tab.
In the Step 1 Choose OS drop-down menu, select your Windows operating system.
In the Step 2 Choose product drop-down menu, select the PC you are using.
In Step 3 Get driver SoftPaqs click Analyze.

Click the drop-down menu for Select Components to Download/Apply, and then select the components you want to download.
Click the pencil icon to select the columns you want to display in the table, and then click OK.
Click the spreadsheet icon to name, save, and export the CSV file, and then click Save.
Click Download to open the Download Folder.
In the Download Folder screen you can choose to create a driver pack (to install later) or to download the drivers.
- Create a driver pack: choose Create a driver pack and download driver installation executables, and then Select a file type. Choose the file type compatible with your corporate environment, and then click Start to save the driver pack.
- Download the drivers: select Download drivers, and then click Start.
