Samsung Xpress SL-M2885FW Laser MFP - How to Update Firmware

Samsung rolls out firmware updates occasionally to improve performance, provide additional capabilities, and help make your printer compatible with updates. This guide will show you the steps for updating your firmware.
  note:
DO NOT DISCONNECT or POWER OFF your printer until the firmware update is finished. Doing so could cause the printer to malfunction.
  note:
DO NOT RUN your printer or PRINT anything during the firmware update.
  note:
Make sure your printer is connected to your computer with a USB cable, and that no other devices (cameras, other printers, etc.) are connected to your computer with a USB cable.
Firmware Update
  note:
Firmware update has been tested and compatible with Samsung toner cartridges only. Installing firmware update may cause non-Samsung toner cartridge to malfunction. Images may vary depending on your operating system. Below example is for Windows 7.
  1. Download the firmware update compatible with Win XP/2003/2008/2012/Vista/Win 7/Win 8/Win 8.1 (32 or 64 bit).
      note:
To download the firmware update, click here.
  2. Open the file. The method varies depending on your browser, as shown below.
    • In Chrome and similar browsers, double-click on the downloaded file to open.
    • In Internet Explorer, click Open, and the file will download and then automatically open.
  3. Once the file opens, double-click on the zip file ending in .exe
  4. You will receive a popup recommending you extract all files. First click Extract all, and then click Extract.
  5. Double-click the now-unzipped file ending in exe.
      note:
Depending on your security, you may receive a notice saying that Windows firewall or other security software has blocked the program and requests permission for the program to run, or you may be asked if you are sure you want the program to run. Allow the program to run.
  6. The Samsung Printer Firmware Update program will open. Click Next.
  7. Read the notification and click Next.
  8. The application will take a minute to search for supported printers.
  9. Check the box beside the correct printer, and then click Next.
  10. The firmware update now downloads to the printer. This may take several minutes. Do not unplug or turn off the printer or computer during this time.
  11. Once the firmware update is complete, click Finish. If you normally connect your printer wirelessly, you may now disconnect the USB cable. Turn your printer OFF and back ON again by pressing the Power/Wake Up button on the printer panel. The firmware update is now complete, and your printer is ready to use.
      note:
If an error occurs after the firmware is updated, restart the printer, then try the update again with a different USB cable in a different USB port on the computer.
