HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556, MFP 586 - Install Optional Tray 3 (1 x 500-sheet paper feeder)

Install Optional Tray 3 (1 x 500-sheet paper feeder)
This document provides the procedure to install optional Tray 3 for the HP PageWide Enterprise Color MFP 586 and HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556 printers.
  1. Take Tray 3 out of the box, and then remove the packaging material. Verify that the contents match this illustration.
      note:
    HP recommends recycling packing materials whenever possible.

  2. Press the power button to turn off the printer.

  3. Disconnect the power cord and USB or network cable.

  4. Open Tray 2 and remove it completely from the printer.

  5. Place Tray 3 on a stable surface, and then place the printer on Tray 3. Use the alignment pins on top of the tray to position the printer.
      caution:
    HP recommends that two people move the printer.

  6. Place two quarter-turn screws into the holes in the bottom of Tray 2, and then turn them to the locked position.

  7. Insert the Tray 2 into the printer, and then close the tray.

  8. Open Tray 3.

  9. Remove the shipping spacer in the tray.

  10. Adjust the paper-length guide by grasping the adjustment latch and pressing it outward.

  11. Load paper into the tray.

  12. Adjust the paper guides to the size of the paper being used by grasping the adjustment latch and pressing it inward. Check the paper to verify the guides lightly touch the stack, but do not bend it.
      note:
    Do not adjust the paper guides tightly against the paper stack. Adjust them to the indentations or markings in the tray.

  13. Close the tray.

  14. Connect the power cable and the USB or network cable.

  15. Press the power button to turn on the printer.

  16. OS X: The list of installed options should automatically update during the first print job after installing the accessory. If not, perform the following steps:
    1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
    2. Select Print & Scan (or Printers & Scanners).
    3. Select the printer, click Options & Supplies, and then click the Options tab.
    4. Manually configure the accessory.
    Windows® 8.0, 8.1 and 10: When attaching the accessory after installing the printer software, perform the following steps:
    1. Windows® 8.0 and 8.1: Scroll to the bottom-left corner of the screen, and right-click the window that displays.
      Windows® 10: Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the open desktop.
    2. Select Control Panel. Under Hardware and Sound, select View devices and printers.
    3. Right-click the name of the printer, and then select Printer Properties.
    4. Click the Device Settings tab.
    5. Update the installed options. The steps vary according to connection type and print driver:
      • Network or USB connections with the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD): Select Update Now in the Installable Options section under Automatic Configuration.
      • Network or USB connections with the HP PCL 6 print driver: Select Update Now.
      • Network or USB connections with the HP PCL-6 version 4 print driver: Manually install the accessory by clicking the drop-down menu next to the tray to be installed. Select Installed.
    Windows® 7: When attaching the accessory after installing the printer software, perform the following steps:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the computer or network.
    2. Open the Windows Start menu, and then click Devices and Printers.
    3. Right-click the name of the printer, and select Printer Properties.
    4. Click the Device Settings tab.
    5. Update the installed options. The steps vary according to connection type and print driver:
      • Network or USB connections with the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD): Select Update Now in the Installable Options section under Automatic Configuration.
      • Network or USB connections with the HP PCL 6 print driver: Select Update Now.
    Windows® XP and Windows Vista®: When attaching the accessory after installing the printer software, perform the following steps:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the computer or network.
    2. Open the Windows Start menu, and then click Devices and Printers (or Printers and Faxes for XP).
    3. Right-click the name of the printer, and select Printer Properties (or Properties for XP).
    4. Click the Device Settings tab.
    5. Click the Installable Options section.
    6. To update the installed options for a Network or USB connection, in the drop-down menu next to Automatic Configuration, select Update Now.
