HP Officejet 8700 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup (Mac)

This document is for HP OfficeJet 8702 and OfficeJet Pro 8710, 8715, 8717, 8718, 8719, 8720, 8725, 8728, 8730, 8732M, 8740, and 8745 All-in-One printers and Mac computers.
To set up an HP printer on a wireless (Wi-Fi) network, connect the printer to the wireless network, then install the printer driver and software from the HP website. When prompted during the installation, select Wireless as the connection type.

Step 1: Prepare for installation

Before setting up the printer on your wireless network, gather the network name and password, and turn on your router, printer, and computer.
note:
If you need to find your network password, go to Find Your Wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 Password.
  1. Gather the following items:
    • Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
    • Network password: The password might also be called the WEP key or WPA security passphrase.
    • A computer connected to your wireless network
    • Internet access: HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL for software downloads, using Web Services, and getting printer updates.
  2. Make sure the router and computer are turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network to which you want to connect the printer. Turn on the printer and place it close to the computer and within range of the router during the setup procedure.
  3. Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables from the printer.

Step 2: Connect to the wireless network

Connect the printer to your network with the Wireless Setup Wizard so the HP installer can find the printer during the installation.
  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Wireless icon .
  2. Touch the Setup icon .
  3. Touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

  4. Touch the name of your network in the list of available networks, and then touch OK.
    Image: Network names
  5. If the list does not contain your network name, touch Enter New Network Name, and then follow the on-screen instructions to enter your network name.
  6. If prompted, type the WEP or WPA key (network password), and then touch Done.
A summary screen displays. Touch OK to return to the home screen.
    note:
If a connection error message displays, make sure you typed the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters for the network name and password exactly. Follow the prompts to type the information again.

Step 3: Download and install the driver

Download and install the most current version of your printer full feature software from the HP website.
If an Auto Wireless Connect screen displays while installing, use it to complete the wireless setup. Otherwise follow the guided steps in the installation software to complete the setup.
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the computer.
  3. Select your printer from the following list:
  4. If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the downloads page.
  5. Click Download next to HP Easy Start or next to the full feature driver, depending on the option that displays.
  6. Open the Downloads folder on the Mac dock, and then click the HP Easy Start file or the full feature driver .dmg file to begin the installation.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer connection and install the software.
  8. When prompted by the installer, click Add Printer to create a print queue on the Mac.
    The Add window opens.
  9. Click the name of your printer, click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu, and then click Add.
Select your printer name in the Use menu on the Add screen
  10. Return to the HP installer to complete the installation.
