This document applies to HP Pavilion dm1-4xxx series notebook computers.

warning:Before starting, power off the computer and wait for components to cool before starting these procedures.
caution:This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Step 1
Remove the battery.

Remove the service cover.

Step 3
Use the black tab on the hard disk drive adapter cable to disconnect the cable from its connector.

Lift the hard drive adapter cable out of the routing channel.
|

Step 5
Remove the Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive bracket to the base enclosure.
Save the screw for hard drive replacement.

Grasp the Mylar tab on the left of the hard disk drive assembly and lift the left side of the hard disk drive assembly up.

Slide the hard disk drive assembly out of the hard disk drive bay.

Remove the two rubber isolators from the hard disk drive bracket.

Disconnect the hard drive cable from the drive.

Remove the four Phillips-head screws (two on each side) that secure the hard disk drive bracket to the hard disk drive.
Save the screws for bracket replacement.

Remove the hard disk drive bracket from the hard disk drive.

Place the hard drive in an anti-static bag.

Place the hard disk drive with the label facing down and align the hard disk drive bracket onto the hard disk drive.

Replace the four screws that secure the hard drive bracket to the hard drive.

Connect the hard disk drive adapter cable into its connector on the hard disk drive.

Replace the two rubber isolators onto the hard disk drive bracket.

Align the right side of the hard disk drive assembly into the hard disk drive bay.

Lower the left side of the hard disk drive assembly into position in the hard disk drive bay.

Replace the Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive bracket to the base enclosure.

Connect the hard disk drive cable to the system board.

Route the hard disk drive adapter cable through the routing channel on the base enclosure.

Replace the service cover.
