HP Photosmart 6510 B211 series - Unable to print (Mac OS X)

Unable to print (Mac OS X)
If you are having trouble printing, try the following solutions to resolve the issue. Solutions are listed in order, with the most likely solution first. If the first solution does not solve the problem, continue trying the remaining solutions until the issue is resolved.
Solution 1: Make sure that the printer is turned on
  1. Look at the On button located on the printer. If it is not lit, the printer is turned off. Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the printer and plugged into a power outlet. Press the On button to turn on the printer.
  2. Try using your printer again.
Solution 2: Verify that paper is properly loaded in the input tray
  1. Do one of the following:
    Load A4 or paper
    1. Pull out the paper tray.
      If it is open, close the photo tray.
      In the main tray, slide the paper-width guides outward.
      Remove any other media that was previously loaded.

      Load paper:
      • Insert a stack of paper into the main input tray with the short edge forward and print side down.

      • Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.
      • Slide the paper-width guides inward until they stop at the edges of the paper.

      Close the paper tray and pull the tray extender toward you, as far as it will go. Flip the paper catch at the end of the tray extender.

        note:
      When you use legal-size paper, leave the paper catch closed.
    Load 10 x 15 cm paper
    1. Pull out the photo tray and slide the paper-width guide outward.

      Remove all paper from the tray.
      Load paper:
      • Insert a stack of photo paper into the photo tray with the short edge forward and print side down.

      • Slide the stack of photo paper forward until it stops.
          note:
        If you are using photo paper that has perforated tabs, load the photo paper so that the tabs are closest to you.
      • Slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper.

      Close the paper tray.

    Load envelopes
    1. Pull out the paper tray.
      If it is open, close the photo tray.
      In the main tray, slide the paper-width guide outward.
      Remove any other media that was previously loaded.

      Load envelopes:
      • Insert one or more envelopes into the far-right side of the main input tray, with the envelope flaps on the left and facing up.

      • Slide the stack of envelopes forward until it stops.
      • Slide the paper-width guide inward against the stack of envelopes until it stops.

      Close the paper tray.

  2. Try using your printer again.
Solution 3: Check for error messages
  1. Check the display on the printer for any error messages.
  2. Resolve any errors.
  3. Try using your printer again.
Solution 4: If you are using a USB connection, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.
  2. Wait 5-10 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the USB cable to the printer and computer.

      note:
    Long USB cables can adversely affect performance. Verify that the cable does not exceed 3 meters in length.
  4. Try scanning again.
Solution 5: Check if the printer is paused or offline
  1. In System Preferences, click Print & Fax.
  2. Click the Open Print Queue button.
  3. Click a print job to select it.
    Use the following buttons to manage the print job:
    • Delete: Cancel the selected print job.
    • Hold: Pause the selected print job.
    • Resume: Continue a paused print job.
    • Pause Printer: Pause all print jobs in the print queue.
  4. If you made any changes, try to print again.
Solution 6: Restart the computer
  1. Bookmark this page so that you can return to it if necessary, then restart your computer.
  2. Try using your printer again.
Solution 7: Check if you need to update your printer drivers
  1. Use the Apple Software Update to check if an HP Printer Driver Update is available, or follow the link below to the Software and Driver Downloads page.
    If supported in your language, there is a link you can click to determine if your printer drivers are already up to date.
  2. If an updated printer driver is available, follow the instructions to install it, and then try printing again.
Solution 8: Contact HP support
  1. If none of these solutions helped you, HP provides various assisted support options for your product.
    To expedite the support contact, have the following information available:
    • Product name (HP Photosmart 6510 series)
    • Model number (located inside the cartridge door)

    • The serial number of the printer (a 10-character code)
      The serial number is located on a sticker on the back or bottom of the printer. The serial number is the 10-character code on the sticker. It contains numbers and letters, but no dashes.
  2. Follow the link below to view the support page for your printer.
    If prompted, choose your country/region, and then click Contact HP for information about contacting technical support.
