Information

This document will summarize how to use the Processing and Adjusting pages option in Smart Document Scan Software.

Details

To use the Processing and Adjusting pages option, perform the following steps:
  1. Launch HP Smart Document Scan Software and select the desired profile.
  2. In the Profile Settings dialog box, click the Process tab to specify the image and document processing settings of a profile.
You will see the Process tab as shown in the following screen:
The following operations can be carried out automatically:
  • Straightening skewed pages
  • Orienting pages right side up
  • Cropping pages
  • Resizing pages
  • Detecting blank pages
  • Detecting bar codes
Beyond these automatic processing options, further individual post-processing is possible for each page in the Preview Pages window as well.
You can also specify a document separator to be used to automatically separate a stack of pages into separate documents. The document separator can be one of the following:
  • A fixed number of pages for each document
  • A barcode found on the page
  • A blank page
Adjusting Pages before scanning:
You can specify the following settings on the Process tab, under the Adjust Page area.
  • Check the Auto-straighten checkbox to have small rotations of the page automatically detected and corrected. Automatic correction is effective only if the rotation needed is between 0.5° and 15°. Note that pages can be individually post-processed and straightened in the Preview Pages window, if necessary.
  • Check the Auto-orient checkbox to have wrongly positioned pages automatically detected and corrected by 90°, 180°, or 270° rotations of the page.
  • Check the Auto-crop checkbox to have page content automatically detected and pages cropped accordingly. Click Auto-crop settings to adjust cropping with a small, normal, large or no margins, as appropriate. Note that pages can be individually post-processed and cropped in the Preview Pages window, if necessary.
  • Check the Resize page checkbox to have the scanned pages scaled to a specified size.
    1. Click Resize settings to set the desired size.
    2. In the Settings - Resize Page dialog box:
      • Select either a predefined size from the list or select the Custom item and specify the Width and Height values.
      • Select the Scale option to specify the relative size of the page as compared to the previous size.
  • Check the Delete blank pages checkbox to delete blank pages. This does not affect whether or not blank pages are being used as document separators.
  • Check the Detect Barcodes checkbox to enable barcode detection. Barcode information can be used for several purposes. For details, see Barcode Settings.
note:
The thumbnails of blank pages continue to appear in the thumbnail view even if this option is selected but none of them are going to be saved.
