HP Web Jetadmin 10.x - Unable to Discover Devices Using SNMPv3

Issue
In some high security network environments, the use of SNMP versions 1 and 2 is not allowed, so HP Web Jetadmin (WJA) device discovery must take place using the SNMP version 3 (SNMPv3). In order for WJA to discover devices that are using SNMPv3, the device must be first configured for SNMPv3. However, even after configuring SNMPv3 on the device, WJA is unable to discover it.
Solution
Check the following settings:
Jetdirect SNMPv3 Configuration
  1. User Name
    The user name is a user-defined character string with the following characteristics:
    • Up to 32 characters
    • Can contain spaces
    • Case sensitive
  2. Authentication Key
    The authentication key is a 16-byte hexadecimal string generated from a case sensitive ASCII passphrase string and the printer’s SNMPv3 Engine ID using Message-Digest algorithm 5 (MD5) hashing. The Engine ID is a hexadecimal string as follows:
    "0000000B" + MAC_Address + "0001"
    Example
    (MAC Address = 0018FEA09EFC)
    Passphrase = Atlantic Ocean 01234
    Engine ID = 0000000B0018FEA09EFC0001
    Authentication Key = 4BEEE6A296B05D69EDC7772981783593
  3. Privacy Key
    The privacy key is a 16-byte hexadecimal string generated from a case sensitive ASCII passphrase string and the printer’s SNMPv3 Engine ID using Data Encryption Standard (DES) hashing.
    Example
    (MAC Address = 0018FEA09EFC)
    Passphrase = Pacific Ocean 56789
    Engine ID = 0000000B0018FEA09EFC0001
    Privacy Key = 0A0598AA68BE6B8CBBD7AB018C158C66
Web Jetadmin SNMPv3 Configuration
  1. User Name
    Verify that the same user name configured on the Jetdirect is entered into the WJA SNMPv3 User Name field. The SNMPv3 User Name is case sensitive.
  2. Authentication Passphrase
    The same passphrase that is used to generate the Authentication Key on the Jetdirect must be entered, and it is case sensitive.
  3. Privacy Passphrase
    The same passphrase that is used to generate the Privacy Key on the Jetdirect must be entered, and it is case sensitive.
      note:
    If assistance is needed generating the Jetdirect Authentication and Privacy keys, contact HP Customer Support.
