HP Compaq dx2300 Microtower PC - Removing and Replacing the Memory

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Memory for the HP Compaq dx2300 Microtower PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Memory that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

  note:

If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. Memory removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
      note:
    This system uses DDR2 PC2-5300 DIMMS. There are two DIMM sockets on the system board: XMM1 and XMM2.
  2. Push down and out on the memory socket latches to release the memory module.
  3. Pull the memory module up and out of the socket.
Memory replacement
  1. Ensure that the memory socket latches are pushed down and away from the memory socket.
  2. Match the notch on the memory module with the key in the memory socket.
  3. Push the module down firmly into the socket until the latches snap into place.
  4. Ensure that the module is fully inserted and properly seated in the socket.
