HP Designjet 4000 Printer Series - User Error Messages, Explanations and Actions

Introduction

The front panel displays messages of many kinds; some allow continued use of the printer while others require action before continuing.
  • If the printer detects a condition of which you should be aware of, it displays a message for your information. Examples of information messages are performance limiting conditions, and printer maintenance requirements. Once the message has been read, it can be removed by pressing the Select key and continue to use the printer.
  • If the printer detects an error, an error code and short message are displayed on the front panel. The following information provides suggested actions to recover from these error conditions.

Error 13:01

Short message

Reseat all cartridges

Recommended action

Remove and re-insert all the print cartridges.

Error 26.0:01

Short message

Reseat yellow cartridge

Recommended action

The yellow cartridge is not detected, re-install the yellow cartridge.

Error 26.1:01

Short message

Reseat magenta cartridge

Recommended action

The magenta cartridge is not detected, re-install the magenta cartridge.

Error 26.2:01

Short message

Reseat black cartridge

Recommended action

The black cartridge is not detected, re-install the black cartridge.

Error 26.3:01

Short message

Reseat cyan cartridge

Recommended action

The cyan cartridge is not detected, re-install the cyan cartridge.

Error 27:03

Short message

Restart the printer. If problem persists, call HP support.

An error has been detected during printhead detection. Reseat all the printheads.

Error 61:01

Short message

Wrong file format. The printer cannot process the job.

Recommended action

The file format is wrong and the printer cannot process the job. Check the graphic language setting of the printer. If sending PostScript from Mac OS over a USB connection, select ASCII encoding in both the driver and the application.

Error 61:04.1

Short message

Update system software (firmware)

Recommended action

Even if the printer has the latest firmware version installed, it is recommended to repeat the update process to clear this error.

Error 61:08.1

Short message

File with password cannot be printed.

Recommended action

Resend this file without password protection.

Error 62:04

Short message

Restart the printer. If problem persists, call HP support.

Recommended action

An error has been detected with the parallel port.

Please resubmit the job as the paper type has changed

Recommended action

The paper type has changed since the job was submitter. The job cannot be printed on the paper that is loaded; please resubmit the job or change the paper.

Error 71:03

Short message

Restart the printer. If problem persists, call HP support.

Recommended action

Out of memory failure. It is recommended to remove any unnecessary files from the hard disk using the Embedded Web Server.

Error 76:03

Short message

Restart the printer. If problem persists, call HP support.

Recommended action

The hard disk is full. If the problem persists, it is recommended to remove any unnecessary files from the hard disk, using the Embedded Web server.

Error 77:04

Short message

Restart the printer. If problem persists, call HP support.

Recommended action

The Embedded Web Server does not seem to be working. Turn the printer off, then on and retry. If the problem persists, check for the latest firmware release.

Restarting the printer

In some circumstances it is advised to restart the printer. Proceed as follows:
  1. Press the Power key on the front panel to turn the printer off, wait a few moments, then press the Power key again. The printer shlould restart; if not, continue with step 2.
  2. Use the Reset key on the front panel. You will need an implement with a narrow tip to operate the Reset key. This normally has the same effect as step 1 above, but may work if step 1 does not.

  3. If neither of the above steps seem to have any effect, Turn off the printer using the power switch at the rear of the printer.
  4. Remove the power cord from the power socket.
  5. Wait for 10 seconds.
  6. Insert the power cord into the power socket and turn on the printer using the main power switch.
  7. Check that the Power light on the front panel comes on. If it does not, use the Power key to switch the printer on.
