I. INTRODUCTION

PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT

This document provides specific installation instructions and other information you should know before you install and use the printing-system software. The installation instructions are for the following operating systems:

For information about Linux printer drivers, go to http://www.hp.com/go/linuxprinting.

For more information about the device and printer-driver features, see the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP4020/CP4520 Series Printers User Guide and the online help included with each software component.

WHO NEEDS THIS SOFTWARE?

All users require this printing-system software. Network clients need the installation CD, or the name of the appropriate network directory, to install the software on their individual workstations.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The following are compatible system requirements for Windows and Macintosh:

OVERVIEW OF THE PRINTING-SYSTEM COMPONENTS

The CD that is included with the product has software for Windows operating systems and Apple Macintosh systems. For more information about a particular printer driver or software component, see the associated online help.

Network administrator software components

HP Web Jetadmin

Network administrators can use HP Web Jetadmin to configure and manage HP products across a variety of operating systems.

NOTE : HP Web Jetadmin is not included on the software CD. Network administrators can download the HP Web Jetadmin software at the following Web site:
http://www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin

HP Utility for Mac OS X

Network administrators can use the HP Utility for Macintosh OS X V10.4 and later to configure and manage HP products from the computer. The printing-system software CD-ROM includes the HP Utility as part of the driver install.

HP Driver Deployment Utility for Windows operating systems

The printing-system software CD includes the HP Driver Deployment Utility as one of the installer options. Network administrators can use this utility to create a custom printer-driver installation package that includes organization-specific components. Select the components from the printing-system software CD. If the selected printer drivers support preconfiguration, you are prompted to preconfigure the printer-driver settings. Upon completion, the customization utility produces an executable file (*.EXE) and a *.CAB file. Use these files to install the preconfigured printer drivers on client machines. This utility supports silent, batch operations. To gain access to the customization utility, select Advanced Install options on the first CD browser screen, select Administrator Software on the second screen, and then select Driver Deployment Utility.

For more information and to download the latest version, go to www.hp.com/go/ddu.

Update Now

If you have modified the configuration of the product since installation, the driver can be automatically updated with the new configuration in environments that support bidirectional communication. In the Printers and Faxes folder, right-click the printer and select Properties. On the Device Settings tab, click Automatic Configuration, and then select Update Now. This automatically captures the new configuration in the driver.

End-user software components

Printer drivers

A printer driver is a software program that other software programs use to gain access to the product features. Typically, you install one printer driver for each product. The printing-system software CD that came with your product includes the following printer driver:

The most recent printer drivers and printing-system software are available at the following Web sites:

Additional printer drivers might be available from an HP distributor or from online sources. See the "TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE" section of this document or see the user guide for more information about obtaining printer drivers and other HP software.
