HP LaserJet MFP M139-M142 printers - Er/04, 05, or 06 error (Paper jam)

When you try to print, the Attention light blinks and Er/04, Er/05, or Er/06 displays on the printer control panel. One of the following error messages might also display on the computer or HP Smart app:

  • Paper Jam

  • Paper Jam in Fuser

  • Paper Jam in Input Tray

  • Paper Jam in Cartridge Area

  • Paper Jam in Output Bin

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Clear the paper jam

Remove any jammed paper from the printer.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Use both hands to remove any jammed paper or objects from the output bin.

  3. Open the toner access door, and then remove the cartridge.

  4. Remove the media stack from the input tray.

  5. Look for jammed paper or debris inside the printer, and then use both hands to remove any that you find.

  7. Align the cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, push in until firmly seated, and then close the toner access door.

  8. Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.

Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
