HP OMEN PCs - Using NVIDIA SLI Dual Graphics Cards

This document applies to HP OMEN computers with dual NVIDIA graphics cards.
Learn more about Scalable Link Interface (SLI) and dual graphics card configurations.

What is SLI?

Scalable Link Interface (SLI) is a communication protocol between two NVIDIA graphics cards using a physical bridge. This technology allows data transfer, load balancing, and composited rendering to take place.
Requirements:
  • 750w or larger power supply
  • Two identical NVIDIA graphics cards that support SLI
    A list of compatible cards can be found at: SLI Supported GPUs (in English)
  • 60.96mm SLI bridge (medium)
note:
Some OMEN PCs are sold with an SLI setup, and others can be upgraded or configured by the customer after purchase.

Setting up the hardware

To use SLI, both graphics cards and the SLI bridge must be installed.
Instructions to install a graphics card can be found at: Graphics Card Replacement Instructions
Install the SLI Bridge using the following steps:
  1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect the power cable from the rear of the computer.
  2. Press the release latch and remove the side panel.

  3. Align the SLI bridge with the connectors on both graphics card, then apply firm even pressure across both cards.

  4. Replace the side panel and power cable.

Setting up the NVIDIA software

Use the NVIDIA Control Panel to enable SLI.
  1. In Windows, search for and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Click 3D Settings from the task list, then select Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX.

  3. In the SLI configuration area, click Maximize 3D performance.
  4. Close the NVIDIA Control Panel, and restart the computer.
