HP Notebook PCs - Notebook PC May Stop Responding When Installing or Booting to Fedora 8

DESCRIPTION
The notebook PC may stop responding when installing Fedora 8 from a CD or boot to Fedora Core base installation.
Installing Fedora 8 may display the following error message:
Time: hpet clocksource has been installed
Booting to Fedora Core base installation may display the following error message:
Decompressing Linux...done.
Booting the Kernel

SCOPE
The specific notebook PCs affected by this issue are listed in the Hardware Platforms Affected section at the bottom of this advisory.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, perform one of the following methods:
Method 1: Switch notebook between AC – DC power
  1. Assuming the notebook PC battery is inserted into the notebook PC battery well, unplug the AC power adapter from the notebook PC if the AC power adapter is connected (AC to DC) or plug in the AC power adapter to the notebook PC if the AC power adapter is not connected (DC to AC), as soon as the notebook PC stops responding.
Method 2: ACPI=Off
  1. Power on the notebook PC. The Fedora boot loader (GRUB) loads.
  2. From the GRUB menu, select Fedora OS (base installation) option by using the UP/DOWN arrow keys.
  3. Press A on the keyboard. A new screen will display.
  4. At the end of the other kernel arguments (e.g., ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet) enter acpi=off.
  5. Press Enter to proceed with booting Fedora 8.
