HP 2000c Professional Series Color Printers, HP Deskjet 1120c, 1100c, 1000c, 800, 720c, 600, and 540 Series Printers - Communication Problems Occur When an HP Scanjet 5s Scanner Is Installed

Issue:
Communication errors occur when using an HP Scanjet 5s scanner with the HP 2000c professional series printers and HP Deskjet printers that support bidirectional communication.
Solution
Turn off the printer's bidirectional communication option through the appropriate Configuration program. To determine the Configuration filename, please refer to the document entitled Troubleshooting Garbled Printing and Communication Problems.
  note:
The LPT1.DOS port selection does not support bidirectional communication. This port setting can be used to eliminate bidirectional communication in Microsoft(R) Windows 3.1x.
Windows 3.1X
  1. In Program Manager, select File and then Run.
  2. On the command line, type the appropriate filename and choose OK.
  3. Select Continue in the message window.
  4. Remove the X next to Print Cartridge Query and Bidirectional Communication.
  5. Select Restart Windows.
Windows 95/98
  1. Select Start and then Run.
  2. On the Open line, type the appropriate filename and choose OK.
  3. Select Continue in the message window.
  4. Remove the X next to Print Cartridge Query and Bidirectional Communication.
  5. Select Restart Windows.
HP Deskjet 1220c Professional series printers
  1. Click Start, Programs, HP Deskjet 1220c Printer, and then the Toolbox.
  2. Select the Preferences tab and remove the checkmark from Enable bi-directional communication.

Contact HP Scanjet technical support for assistance with turning off the HP Scanjet 5s scanner's Automatic Launch feature.
