HP LaserJet Pro - How to connect the printer to the HP Cloud after setup and enroll in HP Instant Ink

Follow these steps to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) and connect the printer to the HP Cloud and enroll in HP Instant Ink.

1. Open the EWS:

   1. On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the printer's IP address.

   2. Press Enter on the computer keyboard.

      Note:

      If the browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing the website will not harm the computer.

      The EWS opens.

   3. Select the "person" icon in the upper right corner and the select Sign In.

      Note:

      If the Admin PIN has never been changed from the default value, you will be prompted to enter the default PIN in the "Log In with PIN" dialog.

      Enter the default PIN and then click Submit.

      If you do NOT have the printer's IP address or PIN, refer to the following document for instructions to obtain the IP address and/or the default PIN.

2. On the Printer EWS Home page, click Connected Printing and then Printer Pairing on the left side navigation bar.

   

3. The EWS will show “Not Paired”. Select Start Pairing to begin the process.

   
   Note:

   A pre-requisite of onboarding the cloud and eventually enrolling in Instant Ink is to get a Pairing Code.

4. The EWS will start checking the Internet connection with the printer, confirming it has the latest minimum firmware required for connecting to the cloud, and then retrieving a pairing code from HP. Once this has been completed, the pairing code is displayed on the Printers front panel.

5. Collect the "Pairing Code" from the printer. In the EWS at the prompt click OK to go to the OOBE Portal (hpsmart.com/connect)to enter the pairing code and onboard the printer.

   

6. The Web browser will now show a screen to either Sign In or Create Account.

   

   1. Choose one of the following options:

      • Sign In: If you already created an HP account in the past, choose this option and then enter the email address and password that you used when you created the account.

        Note:

        If you have forgotten your HP account username or password, click Forgot your username or password? for help to retrieve this information.

      • Create Account: If you do not have an HP account, choose this option and then enter the required information (first and last name, email address, country/region), create a password for the account, and then click Create Account again.

        A verification code will be sent to the email address that you entered to create the HP account.

        Enter the verification code (that you received via email) in the field that displays on the setup page, and then click Verify. Once your account is verified, click Continue.

   2. When prompted, select an account type (company-managed or personal) for the printer and click Continue.

      Note:

      If you choose the company-managed account type, you will be prompted to assign a printer owner (organization or company name).

   3. Follow the onscreen prompts to choose your desired options for HP data collection and firmware updates.

   4. When prompted for the pairing code, enter the pairing code that you retrieved earlier (in Step 4), and then click Continue.

      A message will display when the pairing code has been accepted.

   5. When prompted, give your printer a name and location and click Continue, or if you do not want to add these details, click Skip.

   6. When the Instant Ink offer page displays, choose one of the following options:

      • To sign up for an Instant Ink subscription, click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the sign-up process.

      • To skip the Instant Ink offer and sign up at a later time, click Not Right Now.

   7. On the "Finish printer setup" page, click Set Up next to the "Set up print and send a test page" option.

   8. When the "Set up print and send a test page" dialog displays, click Install next to the "To enable printing, install a print driver" option to download the print driver.

      After the driver has downloaded, click the .exe file to start the printer driver installation.

   9. Once the driver installation is complete, click Print next to "Print a test page" to ensure the printer is set up and ready to print. Then click Done to close the "Set up print and send a test page" dialog.

   10. For MFP models, if you want to set up scan destinations and/or the printer fax, click Set Up next those options.

       Note:

       For SFP models (that do not support scan and fax), continue to the next step.

   11. At the bottom of the "Finish printer setup" screen, click Go to HP Smart Admin to open the HP Smart Admin Dashboard.

       Use the HP Smart Admin Dashboard for the following tasks:

       • Manage the printer

       • Monitor print usage

       • Monitor your HP Instant Ink plan and usage (if applicable)

       • Invite users and additional administrators (co-admins)

       • Enroll in other printing solutions to make printing more efficient

       • Manage account settings

       Note:

       HP recommends bookmarking the HP Smart Admin Dashboard (hpsmart.com/admin) so you can easily access it again to manage your printer.

Follow these steps to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) and connect the printer to the HP Cloud and enroll in HP Instant Ink.

2. On the EWS Home page, click Web Services on the top navigation bar.

   Note:

   If the "Log In with PIN" dialog displays again, enter the PIN and click Submit.

   The Web Services Settings Printer Pairing screen will display.

   If the Pairing State shows a status of "Not paired," then the printer has not been connected to the cloud.

   After confirming that the printer has not been connected to the HP Cloud, continue to the next step.

3. At the bottom of the Printer Pairing screen, click Start Pairing to trigger the printer to contact HP Cloud services to retrieve a pairing code.

   If the printer is successful in contacting HP Cloud services, a Printer Pairing dialog will display (as shown in the image below).

4. At the bottom of the dialog, click Print Code to print the code needed to pair (connect) the printer to the HP Cloud (or click Cancel if you do not want to proceed).

   A page will print with an 8-character pairing code.

   The code is valid for two (2) hours after it has been printed.

   Note:

   If you do not take the next steps to complete the pairing in the next two hours, you will be required to repeat the previous steps to restart the process and print a new pairing code.

5. Open a Web browser go to hpsmart.com/connect, and then follow these steps to complete the pairing and connect the printer to the HP Cloud.

   1. On the HP Smart Setup page, choose one of the following options:

      • Sign In: If you already created an HP account in the past, choose this option and then enter the email address and password that you used when you created the account.

        Note:

      • Create Account: If you do not have an HP account, choose this option and then enter the required information (first and last name, email address, country/region), create a password for the account, and then click Create Account again.

   7. On the "Finish printer setup" page, click Set Up next to the "Set up print and send a test page" option.

   8. When the "Set up print and send a test page" dialog displays, click Install next to the "To enable printing, install a print driver" option to download the print driver.

      After the driver has downloaded, click the .exe file to start the printer driver installation.

   9. Once the driver installation is complete, click Print next to "Print a test page" to ensure the printer is set up and ready to print. Then click Done to close the "Set up print and send a test page" dialog.
