Replace ink cartridges in HP Deskjet, Photosmart 6520 Printers

Replace low or empty cartridges in HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 6525 and HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One printers.

Purchase ink or toner cartridges

Replacement ink and toner is available from HP and local retailers.

  1. Go to the HP Store.

  2. Select your country/region and language.

  3. Click Ink & toner at the top of the page.

  4. Follow the instructions to find and order the cartridges for your printer.

Install replacement ink cartridges

Install new cartridges in HP Deskjet and Photosmart 6520 printers.

  1. Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

  2. Open the lid to the cartridge access area.

  3. Push in the tab on a cartridge, and then pull it from the slot.

  4. Remove the new cartridge from the package, and then pull the orange pull-tab and plastic wrap completely off. The paper label on the top side tears slightly to vent the cartridge.

    CAUTION:

    Completely remove the-tab and plastic wrap before removing the orange cap in the next step. Otherwise, ink might leak.

  5. Hold the cartridge by its sides, and then twist the orange cap counter-clockwise to remove it.

    CAUTION:

    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, an ink system failure, and a failed electrical connection.

  6. Insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot, and then press down on it until it clicks into place.

  7. Close the lid to the cartridge access area, and then follow any instructions to align the printer if prompted.
