HP SlateBook PCs - Adjusting the Audio Volume and Settings (Android 4.3, 4.2/Jelly Bean)

This document applies to HP notebook computers with Android 4.3 or 4.2/Jelly Bean operating system.
You can customize the volume levels for media playback, notifications, and alarms on your notebook, and change the audio settings based on the type of media playing. This document offers information about changing the volumes and sound settings on your HP notebook.
note:
Depending on the version of Android installed on your tablet, some of the images in this document may not match your tablet exactly.

Adjusting the volume using the volume rocker

The volume control rocker on SlateBook computers is located on the upper left rear side of the removable display. To reduce volume, press the - end of the button. To increase volume, press the + end of the button. To mute the sound completely, continue pressing - until a muted speaker icon appears on the screen.

After pressing the volume rocker, the audio volume can also be controlled on-screen on SlateBook computers. Press either the - or + end of the volume rocker. When the volume slider appears on the screen, do any of the following:
  • Click or touch and drag the circle along the slider to adjust the volume. Dragging the slider left decreases the volume, and dragging the slider right increases the volume.

  • Press the settings icon to expand other volume control options.

Customizing system sounds in Android 4.3 and 4.2/Jelly Bean

The volume levels for media playback, notifications, and alarms can be individually customized on your notebook. You can also change the sound that plays when you receive a notification, and enable or disable the sounds that occur when you touch or unlock the screen. Use the steps in this section to customize your notebook's system sound settings.
  1. On the Home screen, click or touch the All apps icon, and then click or touch the Settings icon.
  2. In the Device section, click or touch Sound.

  3. Click or touch Volumes to select custom volumes for media playback, notifications, and alarms.

  4. Click or touch and drag the circle along the slider to adjust the volume for each type of sound. Dragging the slider left decreases the volume, and dragging the slider right increases the volume.

  5. Click or touch Default notification, and select your preferred notification sound.

  6. Touch sounds and Screen lock sound are both enabled by default. Remove the check marks next to either of these options to disable those system sounds.

Turn off all sounds with silent mode in Android 4.3 and 4.2/Jelly Bean

Silent mode disables all sound on the notebook. To turn on silent mode, press and hold the power button, and then click or touch Silent mode.

Changing DTS Sound + settings in Android 4.3 and 4.2/Jelly Bean

Your notebook comes with DTS Sound +, designed to customize and enhance the sound output for specific media types. Use the steps in this section to turn DTS Sound + on or off, and to change its preset for different media playback.
  1. On the Home screen, click or touch the All apps icon, and then click or touch the Settings icon.
  2. In the Device section, click or touch DTS Sound +.

  3. Click or touch the OFF/ON switch to turn DTS Sound + on or off.

  4. For the best sound quality, choose a preset according to the type of media you are playing back: Music, Movie, or Voice.
