HP Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

Introduction
This document applies to the HP Compaq 8200 Elite Microtower PC.
Before you begin
  • Turn off the computer, and then disconnect all cables. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable before disconnecting the power cord.
  • Move the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it.
  warning:
The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the hard drive
Perform the following to remove the hard drive:
  caution:
Review the following safety considerations before performing the following steps. Failure to comply with these safety considerations could result in damage to the product.
Step 1
Remove the side panel.
Remove the side panel.
Step 2
Disconnect the data and power cables from the drive.
Disconnect the cables.
Step 3
Pull out on the green release latch and slide the drive out of the drive cage.
  note:
If the replacement drive does not include guide screws, remove and reuse the screws from the original drive or use the spare screws provided on the drive cage.
Remove the hard drive.
Replacing the hard drive
Perform the following to replace the hard drive:
Step 1
Align the guide screws on the drive with the guide slots and slide the drive into the bay until it snaps into place.
Replace the hard drive.
Step 2
Connect the power and data cables to the drive.
Connect the cables.
Step 3
Replace the side panel.
Replace the side panel.
