HP ProBook 4310s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP ProBook 4310s Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

  • P1 Phillips-head screw driver

Hard disk drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Lift the hard disk drive cover and remove it.
  4. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  5. Grasp the long, narrow Mylar tab to the left of the hard disk drive and pull upward to disconnect the hard disk drive from its connector on the system board.
  6. Grasp the Mylar tab attached to the center of the hard disk drive bracket and lift the hard disk drive out of the drive bay.
  7. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Toe the hard disk drive into the drive bay and align it with the system board connector.
  3. Press the hard disk drive into the connector on the system board until it is firmly seated.
  4. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  5. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the base enclosure.
  6. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws.
