Compaq Evo Notebook PC n110 series - Removing and Replacing Hard Disk Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the Compaq Evo Notebook PC n110 series.
Tools required
  • Smooth jaw, bent-tip needlenose pliers.
  • Narrow-tipped Phillips head #1 screwdriver, preferably magnetized.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Place the computer right side up so that you can see the system board with the battery compartment to your right.
  3. Remove the silver screw that attaches the aluminum plate to the system board.
  4. Remove the silver screw on the aluminum plate next to the hard disk drive that attaches it to the system board.
  5. Remove the aluminum plate.
  6. Remove the silver screw that attaches the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  7. Using a screwdriver as a wedge, force the hard disk drive away from its connector.
      caution:
    Avoid slamming the end of the hard disk drive into the chassis when disengaging the connector.
  8. Remove the hard disk drive.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Place the hard disk drive flat into the base enclosure and close to the system board without touching the system board connector.
      note:
    Do NOT use the PC Card slot for leverage when installing the hard disk drive.
      note:
    Do NOT bend any of the tabs that extend from the hard disk drive during installation.
  2. Using a tool and your thumb, push the end of the hard disk drive until the connector is fully seated on the system board.
  3. Using a tool and your thumb, push the end of the hard disk drive until the connector is fully seated on the system board.
  4. Replace the aluminum plate.
  5. Replace the silver screw to attach the aluminum plate and the hard disk drive to the system board.
  6. Replace the silver screw to attach the aluminum plate to the system board.
