HP Notebook PCs - Error "Restoration Incomplete" Appears and the Recovery Fails with Two Hard Drives Installed

This document pertains to HP Pavilion dv7-3000 Entertainment Notebook PC series.
When attempting to perform a system recovery on the notebooks PC, the recovery fails. At the end of an attempted recovery process, a Recovery Manager dialog box appears stating Restoration Incomplete. This problem occurs when the notebook PC is configured with two hard drives.
Remove hard drive and install recovery media
To resolve this issue, complete the recovery with only the primary hard drive installed.

  1. Power off the notebook, disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
  2. Remove the secondary hard drive.
  3. Insert the recovery disc into optical drive or power on the notebook and press the F11 key to boot from the Recovery Manager.
  4. Allow the recovery process to complete.
  5. Power off the notebook, disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
  6. Reinstall the secondary hard drive.
  7. Power on the notebook.
