HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Hard Drive for the HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower PC.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Hard Drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as 'Yes' under 'Requires Return' then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard Drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. note:
    This system supports SATA drives only. You do not have to select a cable setting.
  3. Disconnect the data and power cables from the drive.
  4. Pull out on the green drive release latch and slide the drive out of the drive cage.
    note:
    If the replacement drive does not include guide screws, remove and reuse the screws from this drive or use the spare screws provided on the drive cage.

Hard Drive replacement

  1. Align the guide screws on the drive with the guide slots in the drive bay.
  2. Push the drive into the bay until it snaps into place.
  3. Connect the power and data cables to the drive.
