HP Compaq nx6120 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Wireless LAN Mini PCI card for the HP Compaq nx6120 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
P1 Phillips-head screw driver

Wireless LAN Mini PCI card removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the memory/Mini PCI cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the outside edge of the memory/Mini PCI cover and remove it.
  4. Carefully disconnect the two wireless antenna cables from the Mini PCI card with a small needlenose pliers or tweezers.
      note:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the Mini PCI card. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  5. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the Mini PCI card to the spring tension position.
  6. Grasp the Mini PCI card by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  7. Place the Mini PCI card in a static dissipative bag.
Wireless LAN Mini PCI card replacement
  1. Remove the Mini PCI card from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the board receptacle.
  3. Grasp the Mini PCI card by the edges and push gently to replace it. Press the Mini PCI card down to latch the arms.
  4. Reconnect the two wireless antenna cables to the Mini PCI card.
      note:
    Use care when connecting the wireless antenna cables to the Mini PCI card. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  5. Toe the memory/Mini PCI cover into the enclosure.
  6. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw.
